Subject: Greetings, and a prayer request

Hi everyone! I had a busy and wonderful Christmas but have been busy and preoccupied the last two weeks. I even forgot to come on here and look to see if messages were being posted.

Rick's littlest daughter, Eryn, a 3-year old, had a grande mal seizure 10 days ago and has been in hospital. The left side of her brain had swelling and their was evidence of "unusual" brain activity. They quickly began treating it as encephalitis type I. They considered epilepsy but there is no family history of epilepsy that we know of. They wanted to do a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis but she wasn't real cooperative! Finally, they decided to get on with the intervenous medication, and told Rick and Rosemary the l.p. was just a "cruel test so we can say, I knew I was right".

Today was Day 10 in isolation, with either mommy or daddy with her every minute (they did 24 hour shifts). They neurologist told them she could go home today, no more i.v.

She had a small session of vomiting two days ago, and then this morning her fever "spiked" to 103.8 and she was vomitting again.

They say blood tests show a bladder infection, which she also had two weeks before Christmas. They fear it might be up into her kidneys. Now they want several more days in observation to establish if it is viral or bacterial, and which antibiotic to fight it with.

Their other 3 children have been here every day after school and for supper and many nights, to sleep over. They have a boy 12, another boy 10 and a girl 7. Some of us are really missing mommy.

Please pray for her continued improvement, and for precious sleep and strength for Rosemary and Rick. He has been off work this past work and again today, and will not be going in tomorrow either, I think.

The good news is the neurologist says the brain is back to normal, the bad news is that while the anti-seizure medication works for a healthy body, it does NOT work for one that is fighting infection and another seizure is a worry.

We have so much prayer support in our family page, and I suddenly realized that sharing our joys and our sorrows is a gift we give one another. Here I was too "busy" to call on your prayers. Besides, my two computers go non-stop when grandkids are here.
