Subject: trouble shooting the NG swing

In my experiences with NG I noticed a number of
cause and effect relationships.
I believe that the most common problem is having too
many CG moves stored in your swing program you have to
find various drills to address these problems.
If your shots go to the right, then: you may be
lunging at the ball in an effort to hit it harder or
you may not know how to "release" the clubhead through
the ball or you may simply swing too fast, you'll find
that swinging slower cures a variety of ills including
this one.
If your shots go to the left then: you may be turning
to see where the ball goes and the ball will then go in
the direction of your shoulders. Make sure you face the
ball at impact. Often you will go left just after you've
gone right and vice versa. It is an example of how your
subconscious mind works as no conscious thought at all
determines or causes this. Make sure that at the "top" of
your backswing that your hands are as close to the rear
shoulder as possible. If you combine this with looking at
the ball at impact then the clubhead will have no choice
but to route itself correctly to the target.
Hitting fat or thin is just the result of anxiety
and distrust of the swing. As the angle of the swing into
the ball is very shallow with the NG swing, this will rarely
if ever happen if you are comfortable executing the NG
swing.
Many of you have been exposed to the body moves the
arms teaching and you are getting tangled up in your body.
Remember: swinging the arms ( both of them) is the cause
and everythhing else is an effect.
So, make sure your setup is good. Make sure you reach
the proper on top position. then get to the impact position
by facing the ball and swinging your arms. Make sure you
understand "release" and you release fully. Finally make
sure that at impact you are facing the ball and that your
head is over your rear knee. There are a number of posts
dealing with "release" on the SA Forum.
My favorite drills are hitting the ball with one
arm only, both left and right and then either hitting the
ball while seated in a chair or with your feet together to
emphasize the fact that you are swinging your arms.
Here is a good "release" drill courtesy of Jim Flick.
Put a tee in the little hole at the end of your grip, from
address move the club back to about waist height with the
tee pointing to the ball on the ground. Then roll your top
hand over your bottom hand so that when you get to the other
side of your waist the tee is again pointing at the ball.
flick calls this the "hearbeat" of the swing.

These suggestions have to help you with the NG swing.
PS Current thinking is not that the arm swing and
the weight shift are two separate motions that have to
be coordinated. The main idea now is that the arms swing
and the body reacts to that. Big muscle theory is just
plain wrong.
