Subject: "The Question" interpretation

Found this on someone's personal website... interesting view :)

Everyday we listen to music and get a picture of what we think the lyrics mean in our minds. The STORY IN OUR HEADS, so to speak! Often we are right, often we misinterpret the song, and often the video makes it even more confusing.

I came across, Familiar 48 - “The Question”, recently and started to listen to it more and came up with some interesting questions in the lyrics.

I had my original interpretation of this song and then Tammy had another that opened my eyes.

My Original Interpretation:

Originally, I went over the lyrics of this song and thought that the singer was referring to all the troubles in the relationship that are causing him to question whether or not he should stay.

I just figured that the women in this song has extremely poor self-esteem and most likely a drinking or drug dependency. When the singer referred to 'falls down trying' and 'falls down crying', I thought that was more on a mental level of trying to quit.

Both questioned whether or not the singer would be around to continue on together fighting the battles presented to the relationship.

My Revised Interpretation:

Tammy opened my eyes up to a new way of thinking of this song lyrically. Tammy pictured that the women in this song has come across a physical accident in her life and is most likely in a wheelchair.

The women still fits into my original interpretation of low self-esteem and is 'physically' falling down 'trying' and 'crying'!

Still both questioned whether the singer will continue on fighting or give up....just a different 'setting'.

Wow....what a real different picture we both painted in our minds?

Whether or not either of us is correct, does not matter as a song is only what it means to us individually!

Take a look for yourself and ask what you believe the meaning to be....

then he types out the lyrics.
