Hmmm,

This is pretty interesting. There is the issue that these mermaids protect the sea and not the air, but that is solvable. Much mythology, mystery, and fantasy surrounds the mermaid milieu so you might be able to build this out-- but I feel the class in general will challenge this.

The fact that these mermaids are both benevolent (to aquadiem citizenry) and malevolent (to outside intruders) is quite useful. Also these mermaids may (apparently) occasionally take pity on a non-aquadiemite and save him/her.

As mediums to heaven there is some good reasoning here, but one significant question is that the religion does sound a bit primitive in that it has a physical attribute which is provable through the senses -- we will discuss this in class today
