To the two gentlemen who were kind enough to respond thus far to my inquiry ("Iowa Shed Hunter" and "Harley"), I'll take your thoughts into consideration and share them with my hunting buddies who participate in our hunting lease. And I'll write back to let you know how things go this year. I've heard that you have to be very careful, as you can really harm the buck if his antlers aren't close to being ready to shed yet. I've even heard of a contraption that caught hold of the antlers and pulled them off too soon, and the bleeding buck was tracked through the snow and was found to have bled to death. I don't know if this is an old hunter's yarn or not, but it pays to be careful I think.
