I want the best of both --

I don't want the game to boil down to a battle of dice but when everyone knows the rules and stays focused, the numbers can become transparent and free the players to transform a mathmatical description of a character into a living breathing death machine.

At the same time, I don't want to lose sight of the fact that numbers are useful in both limiting and enhancing the things that a character can and can't do. I don't think that a Charisma score should be ignored simply because the player can wheedle his way out of anything just like I don't want to determine if my arrow hits the orc by going outside and having to hit a moving target with a bow.

Tanner Goodcock was of below average intelligence with average Charisma and I tried to play him that way. Aram was the opposite and I hope it showed!

Roleplaying should involve melding numbers with reality as much as it involves being creative -- in fact, creativity tends to blossom when certain restrictions are placed on it. When the 2 work together, you can be inventive and adventurous within the framework of the rules and numbers. D&D as it stands right now is not so rules heavy that it impedes sponteneity but it does require the same level of dedication to understandng the current set of rules as we are talking about giving to good roleplaying.

Personally, I see all of our up-coming adventures as being very exciting and I'm making a personal commitment to put my utmost effort into focusing on good RP habits
