Subject: Cleric\Rogue

BTW, a friend decided he'd run a Cleric\Rogue next and asked me what the advantage of only 3 rogue levels would be. I'm afraid I hadn't the foggiest! The Sneak Attacks can't be that vital. Evasion? but then why not stop at 2? Skills? OK but you'll have poor ranks at higher levels.

Clr3/Rogue17 seems better for buff spells and domain bonuses!

Explain please . . .

Rules of the Cleric Rogue.

1. Thy first experience level must be as a rogue. Mad Skilz.

2. If thou art shaking and baking a new character for a high level campaign, take rogue also for thy last level, so that thou canst put many points into the really good rogue skills and max them out.

3. After first level, putteth points only into search, disable device, and listen until they are maxed. Verily they are the reason that the group bringeth a rogue along.

4. Listen is more important than spot, for thou can hear what thou cannot see behind you. Truly I say that you can hear anything that you can spot, but not the other way around.

5. Only one rogue level will boost thy reflex save, allow thee to sneak attack and find magic traps, and cause thy cup to overflow with skills.

6. The second rogue level alloweth 5 points in each skill. Synergy! The bluff conspiracy! Evasion!

7. Afterwards, each cleric level brings thee much more power than another rogue level. With many cleric levels your buffs will last all day. Magical vestment on your armor and buckler. They stack! Don't thou want Greater Magic Weapon? Don't thou want Divine power? What is wrong with thee?

8. The third rogue level is to boost up the big rogue skills towards their new max once thou reacheth the double digit levels.

9. Stay out of melee and shoot thy foes. Stay out of melee. Jumping and feinting and finessing may sound like fun, but thou art not a fighter. Thou will get whacked. It takes many feat slots for all that nonsense that could be put to better use.

10. Sneak attack is overrated. Thou gets +d6 every two levels. That is an average roll of +3.5 every two levels. That means +1.75 points of damage per level. The fighter thou art stabbing gets +7 or 8 hit points per level including con bonus. Once you prick him it is his turn and thou art screwified. Compare this to the damage done per level from a flame strike- and thy friend wanted rogue levels? Blasphemy!
