Subject: Benton Sugarloaf

Looking for help in following the old, unmaintained trail up Sugarloaf. I was there on Friday, had to abandon the quest after I got to the steeps and the trail simply disappeared. I need some clues.

Apparently Nate from http://www.viewsfromthetop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=228226 went up the trail in June, but that forum is "locked" - I can't post, I can't contact the members by email. I noted Roy and J&J call this here site their web, so here it is.

I spoke with the old Camp Whitman director last night and his head of hiking and camping had exactly the same problem.

Trailhead location and the first 1.25 miles didn't seem to be a problem, consistent with Nate's guidance (see link). Very difficult to navigate in the dense woods, there was no point of reference. Since the trail isn't on any maps, it's difficult to determine the correct position by compass. Sorry, no GPS.

I appeared to be on the West side of the steeps, but I'm not sure where the ladders are, I simply couldn't see them.

The trail seemed to run out right around where a hunter's perch in the trees is located.

I'm on a quest now, but I need to get a few more breadcrumbs.

Thanks All.
