I know what you're saying, and I appreciate your bringing up this subject.

In my humble opinion, comments should be made courteously, even if it is a negative comment. I'm sure that poets will not mind if the comments was courteous and respectful.

I myself post many poems according to my own true feelings, at times, I just don't know how good my poems are, and I certainly would welcome any suggestions to improve. Not everyone was born a poet. We all have to learn. Knowing this fact, we give comment each other accordingly.

I always read a poem and at the same time try to "feel" what the poet "feel", that emotional state of mind, and if I can "feel" how the other poet "feel", then it is a good poem, for the poem is powerful and it relates a message, a feeling.

.....and I will comment on the poem accordingly.

If I read a poem and do not feel anything, then I probably was too tired, or my mind was too unclear to sink into the poem; or perhaps the poem was not written the way that it should have, with the author's own true feelings.

Than I would leave that poem aside and try to read it again the next day. Perhaps, the next day my mind would be much clearer to sink into the poem.

This is just how I choose to read poetry. Put myself in the poet's shoes and feel it.

I'm not sure if the others read poetry the same way, but at least I do it this way and I comment on the poems accordingly.

The aboe is just MHO.
