Midnight Storm

Under the blankets I lie tucked in,
away from what brews outside.
Clouds roll in, the sky turns black,
vibrations rumble the night.

Hear hypnotic sounds of rain,
as it dances on my roof.
Light flashes through my room,
then hear the lion roar.

I count between the light and noise,
measure the distance in between.
Every four seconds equals a mile,
the storm is moving away.

I lie here in a trance,
listening to the rain tip toe on my roof,
soothing sounds of the calm after the storm.
Back to sleep I fall.
