Subject: Falling Through Society

Falling Through Society

Slow wrinkles shed from the sky;
carry the weight of angels on broken
backs, wing their way into grace.
A final resting place to lay one's head.

Break fast the rhythm that was built
only for deconstruction, a layman
sits spinning a wheel; spurned,
turning fates for gold.

He wears a bare, worn shirt made of cotton,
threads to match eyes of turquoise,
life's grand plan all in one sweep of a hand.
He tells tales of yore, makes little eyes fill
with wonder and glee he has since lost.

Rain comes early this year, takes the dirt;
turns a mild mannered woman into rage
of dark; lonely nights she cries silently
searching lost streets, dimly lit as she walks.
She walks slow, with purpose; not to break.

A child struggles with errands and chores.
He is too young to bare the weight given;
adulthood comes too soon in this tiny village
and you are lucky to make it past 17.
He carries the world home to his mother and sister.

Papa long gone, buried deep in the memories.
They burn candles; stand close to the fire
before sleep, take heated bricks to beds
made of wood and linen sheets of ice.
Dreams come releasing the day.
