Actually it is quite disgusting, what the Chinese, and some other Asian women were put through. Their feet were literally bound at young ages; toes forced to curl under where after many years they would simply rot away. Men of that society craved small feet..it was a sign of grace, and humility....so the girls were forced to mutilate themselves to accomodate this lust for dominance and control. We've all seen vid bits here and there of the Geisha shuffling around with needles in their hair, feet in small sandles, but always with socks, and always shuffling. Next time you see this, imagine that they are actually standing on half of their foot. That's how it used to be....
