CIEE ( Council on International Educational Exchange) is a non profit organization whose mission is to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.
CIEE's high school program is looking for highly self motivated individuals to join our outstanding team of Local Coordinators. As a Local Coordinator, you play a crucial part in achieving this goal. You have the opportunity to provide cross-cultural experiences not only to young adults from other countries, but also to your own community, schools and host families. This is a position that provides opportunities to shape future leaders of America and other nations, as well as to change local perceptions about the customs and beliefs of a person from a different part of the world. By having these students live with American families, we break down the barriers that divide people, not only across international borders, but also within our own community. Its a great opportunity to experience another countrys culture without leaving our own home. The rewards a family can reap are unlimited.
Position description:
Recruits, screens and interviews suitable volunteer host families for 5, 10 & 12 month high school foreign exchange students.
Matches high school foreign exchange students with qualified host families.
Develops and maintains relationships with local public and private high schools.
Secures written acceptance from school to accept student(s) prior to arrival.
Assist Host family with the application, conduct in home interview and check references. Also introduce themselves to the high school and secure student enrollment.
Insure each host family receives an orientation prior to students arrival. (May be given to several families at once)
Meet each student at airport upon his/her arrival. If you are not able to meet student at the airport you must meet student face to face within 24 hours of his/her arrival.
Maintain AT LEAST monthly personal contact with student and host family.
Submit monthly online supervision log for each student.
Mentor student and host family with the guidance and assistance of your regional director and support staff as needed.
Re-place student in new host family if needed.
Ensure all rules, policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Our students:
Come from 55 countries.
Are between the ages of 15-18.
Are currently enrolled in high school and have not or will not have graduated by the time they arrive in the US.
Have studied at least 3 years of English and possess basic written & verbal English skills.
Demonstrate proper maturity and motivation to participate in the program.
Our host families:
Come in a variety of sizes, cultures, religions and backgrounds.
Must be financially secure.
Must be loving & supportive.
Must have an earnest desire to host an exchange student.
Provide student his/her own bed and quiet place to study. (Student may share bedroom with same sex sibling no more than 4 years age difference if necessary)
Provide meals.
