Title: My Eye's On You
Author: Dee
Rating: PG
Summary: Whitney and Theresa fixed dinner for Chad and his friend.

Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from “Passions” Soap Opera.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theresa and Whitney loved to cook, but especially liked cooking up new dishes together. Tonight, however was a simple prepared meal. They made a Caesar salad, with Italian dressing, French garlic bread and spaghetti. Chad had told Whitney that he liked spaghetti, and for her not to go to any trouble with dinner.

“Chad told me that his friend was bringing the wine.”

“Great!” responded Theresa. “A man with class.”

As soon as the table was set, the doorbell rang.

“Theresa, will you get the door?” Whitney yelled from the kitchen.

Theresa went to the door. Peeped through the peephole and opened it up for Chad and his friend.

“Hey Chad. How are you?”

“Hi Terri.” Chad said hugging her. “I’m fine thank you.”

“Where’s your friend?”

“Here I am.” Ethan said stepping into view.

“I can’t believe this. What are you doing here?”

“I came for dinner.” He said smiling, walking pass, not waiting to be invited in, and handing her the wine.

Theresa cursed under her breath and closed the door.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the middle of dinner Whitney noticed how quiet Theresa was. She thought she would say something to break the ice between Theresa and Ethan.

“So Ethan what do you do?”

“I’m an attorney for Filch and Broak Law Firm.”

“Wow! A lawyer! That’s pretty impressive. Don’t you think so Theresa?”

“Yeah sure, impressive.” She said looking down in her plate.

Whitney looked at Chad to see if he could break the tension going on between Theresa and Ethan.

“So Theresa,” Chad continued. “Whitney tells me that you are a song writer.”

Ethan looked up at Theresa and saw her light up. My goodness she was beautiful. Her smile was simply divine, but her eyes were exquisite. They danced as she talked about music. She was very talented. She had won various talent shows, not only for singing and song writing, but for fashion as well. She could sew, and entered her lines in fashion shows. She captivated Ethan. He never met anyone quite like her before, and he dated his fare share of women.

When Theresa ended her conversation about her talents, Chad asked if she would sing a song for them.

“Oh, I don’t think so. I wouldn’t know what to do, and I don’t like singing with no music.”

“Whitney don’t you have a guitar?” Chad asked jumping up.

“Yes, I’ll be right back.”

While Whitney went to get her guitar, Theresa and Ethan cleaned the table. She trembled for a second when their hands touched reaching for the same glass. She wanted to warm up to Ethan. He wasn’t all that bad. She was still heart broken over Steven, and that made her very weary of men. She didn’t want to be burned again. Especially by a rich guy like Ethan Crane.

Ethan and Whitney sat on the couch and looked up at Chad and Theresa who were about to perform. Chad asked Theresa what she wanted to sing, and she whispered in his ear one of her favorite songs.

Chad began to play the tune on the guitar and Theresa began to sing.

“The first time ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eyes. And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave to the dark and the endless sky. (My love) The first time ever I kissed your mouth, I felt the earth move through my head. Like the trembling heart of the captive bird that was there at my command. (My love)"

Ethan couldn’t believe his ears. Her voice was that of an angel. He was so wrapped up in the song that he hadn’t noticed that his eyes had closed. He could imagine making love to her as the song played on a radio. She was so beautiful and he wanted to show her just how much. He opened his eyes just in time to see the first tear fall from her eyes as she poured her soul into the song.

“And the first time ever I lay with you. I felt your heart so close to mine. The first time ever I saw your face, your face, your face, your face.”

The tears ran down Theresa’s face so freely. She didn’t know that she could still get so caught up in such a simple song. It was more than that though. This song was the first song she had ever danced to with a boy.

She was at the seventh and eighth grade, masquerade sock hop. Her mother made her costume, and made her go. She didn’t want to, because she wasn’t a good dancer. But she went anyway.

The dance was filled with adolescent boys and girls wondering who were behind each mask. But they weren’t allowed to pull the masks off until the end of the dance.

She was dressed in a belly dancer’s outfit. Her face was covered in a deep purple veil, and her beautiful long hair flowed out the back.

The guy she danced with had on a President Reagan mask. She thought it was some political stunt.

Anyway, she was standing by the wall when he walked up to her and asked her to dance. This song flowed throughout the gymnasium. Theresa was so afraid. But when the boy took her in his arms, they just seemed to fit right in place with one another.

She was so happy. She was dancing. But dancing with him came easy. She didn’t make one wrong move. It was like they were made to dance with one another.

The rest of the evening, she kept her eye on the young boy in hopes to see his face at the end of the dance. But such time never came. One of her brothers was in an accident, and her father came to get her before the dance was over.

How ironic she thought? Dancing to a song called “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”

She never felt those emotions with a boy, and the first time she did, she never got to see his face. How ironic indeed.

After Theresa dried her face, Chad suggested that they all go for a walk down by the wharf. They all agreed and headed out. Whitney and Chad walked hand in hand about twenty feet in front of Theresa and Ethan. This was the perfect opportunity to melt the ice between them.

“Theresa you have a very beautiful voice.”

“Thank you.” She said in a low trembling tone.

“Are you cold?” He asked her.

“Just a little.”

“Here, take my jacket.”

Ethan pulled off his jacket and placed it around her arms, He stood facing her while zipping it. Their eyes locked with one another.

“Your voice is lovely, but not as lovely as your smile.”

Theresa blushed at Ethan’s kind words. She lowered her head, but he lifted it with his forefinger by her chin.

“Your smile is beautiful, but not as beautiful as your eyes.”

“Ethan don’t.” She said shaking her head.

“Why Theresa? I think a beautiful girl should be paid a compliment every now and then."

Theresa smiled at his warms generous words.

“What I can’t understand is why you’re not seeing anyone. I’m sure guys are lined up to date you back at school.”

“I was dating a guy in New York. But he turned out to be a jerk. He was seeing someone else while we were dating, and he didn’t tell me.”

“Would that have made a difference?”

“Probably not. I just like honesty. I could have worked something out with him. I definitely wouldn’t have slept with him, but it’s too late now. The innocence I once knew is gone forever. He was my first and my last. I don’t think I can ever be with another man. I guess I’m afraid of getting burned again.”

“Theresa that’s no was to live. You have to have faith that things would get better.”

“I suppose. It’s just hard to be able to trust men right now. Maybe one day I’ll get over Steven.”

“I’m sure you will. And then you’ll see we’re not all that bad.”

Theresa smiled at Ethan as they continued to walk down the wharf.

Ethan couldn’t believe that this girl, who threatened to press charges for sexual harassment, was the same girl who was sharing intimate feelings of her life. He felt privilege and very close to her at that moment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When they reached Whitney’s front porch, Theresa took Ethan’s jacket from around her.

“Thank you for letting me borrow this.” She said looking up at him.

“No problem.” He whispered.

“Well I guess I better go inside.”

“Yeah, I’m sure Whitney is wondering what happened to us.”

“Well maybe I’ll see you around.”

“I hope so. Tonight was great.” Ethan said placing a hand on her shoulder.

Theresa shuddered at his touch.

“I had a good time too.” She said.

“Well goodnight.” Ethan said very softly.

“Goodnight.” Theresa whispered, closing her eyes and lifting her head.

Ethan wanted to kiss her badly. His heart was aching for him to do so. He pulled her so close to him that he could almost feel her heart beat. He leaned down and brushed his lips across her cheek.

Theresa opened her eyes and smiled at him. She whispered another good night and went inside the house.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ethan lay in his bed and stared up at the ceiling. He had never felt this way before. Theresa was everything he had ever dreamed about. She was strong yet vulnerable all at the same time. She had a lot of love to give. Her heart was pure and good. Ethan knew he had to have her in his life. But was she ready to trust him? What could he do? He didn't want to frighten her, but he had to find a way to make her trust him.

"I have to see her." He thought to himself. "Where's my address book?"

Ethan looked around his room until he came across it. He searched for the Russell's number.

"Ahh, here it is."

He dialed Whitney's number and waited for someone to answer.

"Hello?" A woman's soft whisper answered.

"Um hello. This is Ethan. Is Theresa up?"

"Oh hi Ethan, this is Whitney. I think Theresa is still asleep. We were up kind of late last night."

"Oh I'm sorry."

"Ethan do you know what time it is?"

"No, not really."

"It's four in the morning. Why are you calling her so early?"

"I don't know. I just had to hear her voice I guess. Do you think she would come to the phone?"

"I'll see. Hold on."

Whitney placed the phone down on her lamp table, and slipped on her slippers to go to Theresa's room. Whitney knocked on the door.

"Theresa, are you awake?"

There was no answer.

"Terri, honey. Ethan's on the phone. Are you awake?"

Still no answer. Whitney peeked through the door, and found Theresa's bed completely made, and she was no where in the room. She walked inside worrying where she could be. She noticed a piece of paper on her pillow that read: "Whitney, don't worry. I went down to the wharf to watch the sun rise. I'll be back soon. -Terri."

Whitney went back to her room and picked up her phone.

"Hi, Ethan, that's funny. You and Terri must think alike. She's up as well. But she's not here."

"Not there. Is she all right?"

"Yes. She went down to the Wharf to watch the sun rise."

"Thanks Whitney. I'll talk to you later."

"Bye Ethan."

Ethan pulled on his jacket and walked down to the pier.

When he reached the Wharf, it was still quite dark. But he could see her in the distance. When he approached her, he saw that she was curled up on the bench, hugging her knees close to her chest. She was staring out at the Ocean. When he came closer, she looked up at him. He noticed that she had been crying.

"Ethan." She said with a whisper. "What are you doing here?"

"I called the house and Whitney told me that you were down here. May I join you?"

"Sure." She said staring back out across the Ocean.

"So, do you always watch the sun rise?"

"Not really. I couldn't really sleep last night. I have a lot on my mind."

"I hope that I'm part of what's on your mind."

Theresa looked up at Ethan, and smiled at his comment.

"Part of me is thinking of you. I really enjoyed our walk last night. You're different than any of the guys I've ever dated."

"Are we dating?" Ethan said with a smile.

"I didn't mean that Ethan. I meant that you... Well, you're nice. And I don't know many guys that are as nice as you are. I've acted like a total jerk with you, and it's surprising that you still talk to me."

"Theresa, you're not like any woman I've ever know either. When I look in your eyes, I see a whole other world that I think is worth exploring. I find myself wanting to know everything about you. What makes you laugh, what makes you cry? Everything. I'm just hoping that you would give me the chance."

"I'm not sure Ethan. It's just so soon after me and…" She trailed off.

"I know, you and Steven. What a jerk."

"Shh, listen. The sun is rising. I heard that it whispers good morning when it comes over the horizon."

Ethan looked at Theresa, and saw how excited she was to see the sun rise.

"Don't look at me silly, look at the sun." She said smiling.

Ethan turned his head out towards the Ocean. Theresa leaned her head on his shoulder, and it made his heart skip a beat. He took a chance and put his arm around her as they watched the sun come into place. It was a beautiful sight. Almost as beautiful as his precious Theresa.

"Did you hear it say good morning?" He whispered.

There was no answer from her.

"Theresa, are you O.K.?" He said lifting her head up a little.

He put her head back in the cradle under his arm, and laid his head on top of hers, and soon he too was asleep.
