Staring grumpily into space, she ignored Jesar's obvious plight.
In sleep only, the colt was not orderly. He tossed and snored, snuffled and twitched, chasing, or being chased by, invisable preditors.
Shifting away from her fidgetting son without bothering to calm his nightfears, she lifted her head proudly up to face the stallion, "You know, Jesar, she's right. You never did ask me to be your mate."

Oh... -- Jesar, 16:27:28 12/15/02 Sun
"Will you then?" He asked suddenly. "Will you be my mate? I just sort of thought that it was.. er... and unspoken thing. It felt like we were already mates," He says, his stare blank.
Medusa awoke, her eyes ablaze. She looked at her mom and snuffled loudly. ~Oi!~ She squealed, her little ears tilting backwards.

She did not doubt for a moment the motives behind his request -- Brush Fire and Apollo, 18:51:21 12/15/02 Sun
"Yes, Jesar, I will," she replied with a radiant smile. Her soft muzzle found his leg, the only part of him she could reach from her prone position. Even little Medusa and Apollo earned a tender, if brief, touch.
The nuzzle was all he'd wanted, and the coal grey colt awoke with an ecstastic expression. Encouraged by Brushy's mood, he cuddled closer to her. "Mama," he exclaimed, delighted.
"Oi," Brushy parroted her daughter's use of the mare's own favorite phrase with cheerful exasperation. Glad enough to share her light state of mind, she nipped lightly at Apollo's flank and rose to her feet.

Smile -- Jesar, 18:58:35 12/15/02 Sun
He smiles, though his happiness is dampened by what his mother said to him. If she was telling the truth... if she never spoke to him again... He shook his head briefly, suddenly very tired. He walked a bit closer, protectively, and nuzzled her neck back briefly.
She squeaked at her mom's rather open display of affection. Blinking her great green eyes, shielded by long lashes, she lifts herself off the ground, shaking bits of dried grass from her rainbowy black coat.

Not to be left on the ground by himself, Apollo rose as well. -- Brush Fire and Apollo, 19:13:08 12/15/02 Sun
He forgot his staid self for long enough to indulge in the excess energy God granted colts of the newborn variety. Crowhopping to his father's side, he bumped against him. His grey ears flicked about wildly, casting equally steely orbs in and out of shadow, "Pa?"
She flourished beneath his touch, leaning her sore frame against his physically solid one. She had no idea what was going on in his mind, only that he seemed...distant. Wait just a moment now, Lava's appearance+Anger+Rapid disapearance=...well, no wonder he was distant! With a movement that our young darling deemed as graceful, she gestured in the direction of Lavaterra's retreat, "It's alright, Jesar. I'll take the babies to see her later. When she sees that I'm happy she'll be alright."

SIlence -- Jesar, 19:19:06 12/15/02 Sun
He nudged Apollow briefly, then turned to Brushy. "Oh Brushy..." He whispered, disgraced to feel the back of his usually emotionless eyes sting with unshed tears. Blinking briefly he exhales loudly. "I'm so glad you are happy," He said finally.
Medusa, sensing that her parents were not wanting to be bothered, nipped her brother. ~Silly 'Pollo. Come on!~

Apollo could sense that his relationship with the 'rents was going to be a perpetual "not wanting to be bothered." -- Apollo and Brush Fire, 19:40:48 12/16/02 Mon
He nodded his assent, forlorn to the level of servitude and strode steadily after his sister, "L'rite 'Dusa."
She smiled gallantly, "I'll be honest, Jesar. I don't like foals any more than I did, though Medusa and Apollo are a credit to us. But even you have to admit that the circumstances of their birth are different than yours."

True -- Jesar, 10:10:31 12/17/02 Tue
"True, true," He commended, nodding slightly. "I was just worried for a second that she was right, you know I would never do anything to hurt you. Not even on accident," He said solemnly.
Medusa watches her brother, nipping his rump and half-galloping away, though her front legs aren't moving fast enough to keep up with her hind legs. Using her wings to keep up this odd gait, she races around in a big circle then stops in front of Apollo, rearing on spindly hind legs.
