Wasted Apples

Let me start this review off by explaining that this review isn't of a big budget flick but a local group of guys partaking in a bit of Extreme Film Making. With that being said, no negative or positive Severed Heads(star system) will be used, just a review of their material. Oh yea, and this isn't a Horror Flick or a Sci-Fi Flick, so it is something different to the JOYHORROR site. Enough of this and lets get to it.....

Wasted Apples is a group of Haddon Heights, NJ kids making a *coming of age* flick with the backdrop being that they just graduated from High School. The big graduation party is coming up and the whole gang readies for the bash; and by the whole gang, I mean a load of kids--The Kid that just says Meow, The kid that just Shit his pants, the Fat Kid who always has the one liners, The kid that had a dream about naked guys and now everyone thinks he is gay, the kid who has an imaginary girlfriend that he talks to while swinging on a swing, the *Halfbreed* kid with a huge afro, the smelly kid etc, etc, etc..... There are too many to name but their are plenty of Gay, Ass, Fart, Shit, Humping Jokes to go around thru the entire flick.

The story revolves around Joon Bug--forgive the spelling if case this is incorrect but you get the drift--who is the guy throwing the party at Midnight. Joon Bug starts off his day getting into a fight with his next door neighbor and having charges pressed against him. Later he goes to work and gets the biggest Dildo you'll ever see thrown at him while he cleans up at the movie theater. Later on, the sensitive Joon Bug, goes to check on his sick girlfriend to see if she is OK. After Joon Bug forgets a CD at his girlfriends place, he goes back to get it and finds out his girlfriend isn't sick at all--he is cheating on him. He breaks up with her on the spot.

The story also settles around Tommy. Tommy is the guy who has never been laid. He tells the story of his closest sexual experience when he had a girlfriend for one week in 8th grade. Tommy is a nice guy--funny--and good looking but whenever he gets around a girl, he always says the wrong thing. The funniest example of this was Tommy asking a girl if she wanted to get some pizza and fuck. The girls slaps him and storms off with Tommy yelling to her, *what's wrong, don't you like pizza*.

The most fun part of the movie centers on Quade. He wants to build a time machine like he saw in the movie Back to the Future and go hack to the year 1994. I don't remember it being explained why 1994, but what the hell, that was a damn good year. Maybe Quade is gonna save Kurt Kobain's life or something like that. Whatever the reason, Quade shows up at the party to say good-bye before traveling time--and a great job of effects and editing was done to pull this off great.

Overall, Wasted Apples is a good job of Extreme Film Making. These guys start their story with a great epilogue about teenage youth being misunderstood that really hits home for anyone who has been misunderstood as a teenager and was very well written. It gives a load a characters a backstory and then delivers on explaining that story. It is edited together great and the score of the film also fits in nicely. There is a cartoon mixed in for good measure too. It has a really nice pace that keeps the story from getting stale.
