What many people don't understand is that we already have eternal life. Our souls are eternal, when our bodies die, our souls do not.

This world is doomed already, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Our mortal bodies are made of corruptable tissue, so no matter how hard we try to stay healthy, we age and our bodies deteriorate. Even Botox and loads of plastic surgery and organ replacements cannot hold back the ticking time bomb of aging and death. Death is mankind's just punishment for disobedience to God. We deserve to die, because we have all broken God's perfect law.

You may not think you have done anything bad enough to be given eternal damnation, but how can you know that even the one little sin you commirted did not have a devestating effect on someone else? Your tiny little sin might have been the last straw to one of your brothers or sisters. Something like that might have happened in the Lake District last week. The stamp of a butterfly's foot can be the catalyst to start a landslide.

Jesus Christ is the only one who can offer us escape from the horrors to come. God set the just boundaries of the perfect law, and only God can redeem a person from that terrible punishment.

I know it sounds harsh, but God is God and who can argue with God? It's his world, we live under his terms, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. But when you really get to know God, you begin to understand why he has set such a high standard, and why he cannot even tolerate a speck of sin. God WANTS us to know him - it is only us who reject him, and remember, we crucified him. Our ancestors did that, so we bear the guilt of that crime.
