Finally got my hands on the first two issues of season 8 just over a week ago. Buffy season 8 babble ensues ***

A few things are of immediate interest such as how the slayers get so organised so quickly? Their equipment alone must run into millions and seeing as the watchers council was wiped-out at the end of season 7, who finances them? I doubt very much if Joss will explain this.

This network of small ¡°cells¡± of slayers has attracted the attention of the US military; citing them as terrorists. Which I suppose plays on current US foreign and perhaps internal fears (but it¡¯s not really my place to say if this is true or not). The reason that I say this is the US Military rather than the Initiative is that they are aware of demons, vampires and such like and probably conversant on the slayer and slayer lore. So it¡¯s pretty unlikely that they would confuse demon slayers for terrorists.

It¡¯s a little too early (possibly) to tell who the ¡°big bad¡± will be but it appears as though the people with the crescent and star on their torso will be significant. As usual with BtVS there are a number of threads and adversaries running through the season and it¡¯s nice to see the tradition upheld with the reintroduction of Amy. This was fairly easy to guess with the statement that they had requested cheese. A lot of cheese. This meant that it was either tarasAppentice or ex-rat Amy, and tarasApprentice has never been to Sunnydale (or at least I don¡¯t think that she has!!!).

Joss nicely explains that it wasn¡¯t the "real" buffy who we saw (or rather didn¡¯t see) in season five of Angel dating the Immortal but merely a double to fool people into thinking that she¡¯s a skanky ho who dates supernatural beings when in reality ¡¦.erm¡¦she¡¯s a skanky ho who dates supernatural demons (no apologies, I still haven¡¯t forgiven her for what she did to you-know-who in season three).

Xander apparently has given up the construction business and is now some sort of pseudo-watcher come military commander. Looks like Ethan did Xander a favour when he became military guy in season two¡¯s Halloween episode, it appears to have put him in good stead for the future.

Dawn, it has to be said has problems, big problems. Not least of all where does she get her clothes from. But does she have to contaminate the beautiful Scottish highlands by bathing in its streams?

Now, I¡¯m sure I¡¯ve mentioned way back in season six that slayer¡¯s are fine beating-up on some unspeakable evil but they are pretty much useless against magickal users. Although, it did strike me as odd that Amy put some sort of ¡°sleeping beauty¡± spell on Buffy if she was intending to kill her. I mean, what¡¯s the point? I suspect that Amy probably assumed that Buffy would have some form of Willow supplied mystical protection. Amy in season six provided evidence enough that she as improving magically, although still behind Willow, and was jealous of Willow¡¯s ability and it could be that Amy was trying to prove that she is finally a match for Willow as well as taking Buffy out of action for a while.

The big question seems to be just who (or is it a case of what?) is Amy¡¯s boyfriend? From what I can tell it could be either Warren, magically brought back from the dead by Amy. As Willow killed Warren she might see him as a natural ally in her Willow hatred. Other possibilities are Adam, but I don¡¯t see any mileage in resurrecting him. Another possibility is that it is my namesake Rack. Again, another victim of Willow¡¯s (and he didn¡¯t kill anybody) and he¡¯s already known to Amy from before season six and what better to have on your side than a warlock?

But for me the best news is that she¡¯s back and will be soon heading for England!!!!! Yes It¡¯s the most scrumptious of slayer¡¯s F¢¾ith. If she¡¯s in need of a guide to this green and pleasant land then I always available.
***

Babble ends here.

Hope everyone is well.

Well, it looks as though this will be my last chance to post. I wanted to spend my last week on-line here in The Magic Box, but as has happened frequently of late, Real Life has conspired to defeat me. I have a feeling it will be a very long time before we are able to get back on-line, so I don't suppose anyone will still be here the next time I peek through the door.

I'll miss you all. You've made me laugh, helped me get through some very rough times, and kept me sane much longer than I had any right to expect. If anyone ever asks me where my favorite place in the world is - I'll tell them it was a little occult shop in Sunnydale. *s* Be well. {{Hugs}}

dogtrot: Thank you so much for everything. I wish I'd had more time to talk - I should have come back sooner. I don't even have time to explain what's going on, as I must get off-line to free the phone. If I told you all the things that have happened this week, I doubt you'd believe me anyway. I think my family is cursed.
I know I won't be able to send a card, so Happy Birthday! a bit early. *s* I really hope we can stay in touch. {{Hugs}}, sweetie.

Rack: Forgive me for being brief, but I really can't stay on-line. I hope a visit in the future works out, though I understand what you mean about making plans. I wanted to give you a couple of links to the information you asked about, though - just in case. *s*
General Mitchell International Airport is in Milwaukee, which is about an hour's drive from here. We have a local airport - Sheboygan County Memorial Airport - but I couldn't seem to find a website. I did find this, which might help a little. If the Milwaukee airport doesn't work, O'Hare International in Chicago may - as it might be possible to get a flight from there to my local airport.
We might not have our phone back yet by the time you plan to visit, so you will have to let me know via snail mail what's going on, okay? {{Hugs}}, dear.

I have to *poof* now. Good-bye, all.

I don’t know what it is but I used to keep getting an error message whenever I tried to post here. Anyways I’ve been successful this time!!

I had to preorder the Buffy comic from the states as I couldn’t find a UK outlet that was supplying it. Still haven’t got my copy yet, but as I preordered the first two issue together they may ship it when the second one come out. With luck I should be able to join in any discussions then.

Almond: tarasApprentice has some pictures from our trip to NY on the web somewhere, if you ask her I’m sure that she will provide you with the link. I haven’t really been up to much since I got back last year. I completed the final course I was doing for the University Certificate in Web Applications Development and managed to pass it, which was quite an achievement as my powers of concentration appear to have deserted me. Despite the fact that the final course finished in December I only got my result last week.

I was thinking of taking a break from studying to rest my lone surviving brain cell. However, things change and I find myself at a bit of a loss after last year; so I decided to do a course in Java (the programming language not the coffee).

The exam for this course will be sometime in October and I’m still planning on going to Wisconsin some point after that. I haven’t made any plans yet as plans and me just don’t seem to workout for some reason. I may only be in the States for a week, but I’m trying to squeeze at least a couple of that there as there is a strong possibility that this will be my last vacation to the US for quite sometime, maybe even last ever. I have to ensure that I get to see my beloved Juventus next year, they need their fans.

One thing that you could help me with is; are there any airports near to where you live that do domestic flights and does Wisconsin have an international airport?

Hope everyone is well.

Almond dashes into The Magic Box pursued by a Minor Crisis, two Undone Chores and a small band of Real Life Denizens. Slamming the door in their collective faces, she grabs dogtrot and gives him a huge {{hug}}. Something resembling sawdust spurts out of his ears and drifts to the floor.

Don't you just love the virtual world - where one can out-run demons and shut a stout imaginary door to keep them at bay? *g*

dogtrot: The package came today! Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU!!! It's absolutely fantastic!
Of course, I've already read the comic. *g* [spoiler] What a wonderful season 8 opening episode it would have made. *s* I loved the fact that it addressed the A:tS episode with Buffy and The Immortal. I wasn't happy with that storyline, and thought the explanation given in the comic was hilarious. *g* Dawn's "growing pains" and the conversation between her and Buffy were very amusing, too.
I assumed the government types were some off-shoot of the Initiative? They must not have gotten the memo, or they wouldn't be messing with our girl! *g*
I just loved everything about it - especially the ending. Hee! I'm so grateful you went to such trouble just so I could read it! *s*
[end spoiler for new Buffy comic]

Almond munches a few Cadbury Eggs. Mmmm, chocolate! She smiles in joyful bliss.

I was very touched by the effort you went through to give me all those seasons of Buffy, too. *s* I don't quite know how to tell you this, but.....uh.....you mis-read my post, sweetie. It's Angel I only own one season of - I was lucky enough to get all the Buffy episodes some time ago. Your gift was still greatly appreciated, however. Girl-Not-A-Child loves Buffy, too. We started watching it together when she was just 8. So since she only had one vhs tape with 5 or 6 episodes on it, I passed it on to her. She was thrilled! She said to tell you, "thank you very much - now my friend Jake and I have something good to watch together!"

My dear, I am so sorry to hear about poor Dodger! You must miss him very much. {{Hugs}} I'm sure it comforted him to have you there at the end. I could tell you it hurts less with the passage of time, but right now I'm sure you don't want to hear what must sound like a cliche. :(

I have more to say in response to your last post, but I'm falling over tired and must *poof* for bed. I'll be back tomorrow, though, and babble more then. G'night!

Almond, I have 2 books by CJ Cherryh (Brothers of Earth and The Faded Sun), but I read them almost 30 years ago and I can't really remember the stories at all, but I've hung onto them all these years so I must have thought they were something special.

Baton Twirling and Tap Dancing will become lost arts if there are no more talent competitions in these beauty contests (probably the wrong word). Donald Trump? I think he is like way over-exposed.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying the spring like weather, but I'm hoping we don't have another super heat wave this summer like last. I'm such a worry-wart.

Oh, my poor Dodger died of kidney failure last November (before this latest pet food thing). I still feel pretty bad about it when it comes to mind. It was the first time I was with a pet when he was euthanized...much tougher than I was prepared for.

First - you're not stupid, so it must be bunnies the computer! :D

You didn't miss much regarding the pageant, though California did finish 4th. Donald Trump (aka I-do-my-own-hair-isn't-it-pretty) recently bought the pageant (I didn't know you could do that!), and now it looks more like a runway show during fashion week - by a very bad designer. (Most of the girls looked very much alike, too, which was a bit disturbing. Have they started cloning people?) Did you know they don't even have the talent portion anymore? I miss that! Where else can you count on seeing flaming batons, hearing done-to-death ballads, and.....tap-dancing?! You just can't get enough tap-dancing. :P

I'm happy to hear you've been having some summery weather. :) Do you get outside much? Frisbee golf with Dodger? :D
Our weather is being typical for Wisconsin - can't make up its mind. I think it's raining right now....

It sounds like the photo project was quite a job! I'm sure your Mom will really appreciate it. :)
One of my brothers started a similar project after my Dad sold the house. Quite a few of our family pictures were on slides, and he was converting them to discs. If he ever finishes, I'm supposed to get a copy. I'm not holding my breath, however. :P

Hey! We both hurt our backs in photo-related ways! This past week, I've been working on finally sorting and albumizing (Is that a word? Well it is now!) four large boxes of pictures that have been gathering dust here for much too long. During the shifting-about-to-get-at-them phase, I pulled my lower back muscles. I second your "ow". I hope you got your Motrin!

I know you like sci-fi.....do you read C. J. Cherryh? I've been rereading her "Chanur" series, and it struck me last night that the last one I own ("Chanur's Legacy") was written 15 years ago. Do you happen to know if she's written any more in that series?
I should probably google that, huh? :D

Waves to all the lurkers before poofing.

It has been pretty spring-like around here, almost like summer somedays. I didn't even know that the pageant was on! I was fiddling with my stupid computer (or maybe stupid me was fiddling with the computer) much to my frustration, and I knew that my usual shows (Ghost Whisperer---that J. L. Hewitt is such a cutie!--- and Numbers weren't on) so I kind of ignored the TV, which is a rare thing I can tell you.

Today I took digi-photos of about 500 old family pictures my mom gave me and put them on a disc for her. This was quite an undertaking; I spent almost 5 hours, and now my ancient old back is crying out for some motrin.
Ow and good night.

Are you having nice weather there? It was so nice this afternoon, I spent some time outside - wandering up and down our street with a trash bag picking up garbage. lol (Hey - it's one of the first signs of spring around here!)

I understand there will be a new printing released on March 28th for those who missed out. I've decided not to try to secure one for myself after all. I did the math, and at $3 a copy with possibly 30 issues to look forward to, I can't justify the expense. Oh well.

Did the old posters that dropped by the Beta for the anniversary stick around? (I haven't peeked back in there since the day after the big reunion.) If so, it must be fun.

The goat wanders out of the back room chewing on a stolen cookie. His shiny red hat has tipped over one eye - giving the hairy little beast a slightly drunken look. He spies Almond asleep in her chair, and ambles over to investigate. Finding his prey unresponsive to a gentle nudge, he begins to munch a dangling shoelace.
Awakening from a dream that might have involved being a plate a spaghetti, Almond bestows a pat on her companion's head, then straightens his hat. Removing the remains of her shoe from the wee critter's mouth, she puts a bowl of water and another of goat chow on the floor and directs his attention to the replacements.
After covering the buffet items on the counter with plastic wrap, Almond rinses out her glass and puts on her coat. Tossing a haunch of something-or-other-meaty to the panther and leaving a plate of imp-worthy tidbits near the door, Almond heads out.

The bell rings, and Almond struggles through the front door of the Magic Box carrying an overflowing armful of party supplies. As she heads for the counter, she leaves a litter of brightly colored party hats on the floor - like a trail of bread crumbs pointing an escape back to daylight and normalcy.
Dumping her load of festive goodies on the counter-top, she arranges things such as werewolf-shaped cookies and napkins emprinted with the Buffy logo in a less scattered fashion. That done, Almond climbs the ladder to the lurker loft to hang a banner that reads:

Happy 10TH Anniversary BtVS!!!

She then nods hello to the panther, descends to her comfy chair, and debates pouring herself a drink.

Hello, all! What a nostalgic day! I didn't realize it was 10 years ago today that a Slayer appeared to change our lives (and save more than a few) until dogtrot was kind enough to clue us in to the fact. For those of you who'd like to check out the celebration at the Bronze:Beta, here's a link to teleport you straight there. Don't forget to have some cake before you go! And put on a hat - I bought way too many of the darn things. :)
Still here? Well, pull up a chair, pour yourself a drink, and check out this Wikipedia article about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's chock full of information on the series and great links to related material. Enjoy!

dogtrot: The S8 comic is mentioned in the article link I posted. Quote:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an upcoming series of comics based upon the television series of the same name, set to serve as a canonical season eight. It is to be produced by Joss Whedon who will write the first arc, The Long Way Home. The first issue is to be released on March 14, 2007. The series was originally supposed to consist of about 25 issues, but Whedon said in an interview that he thinks there will be "well over 30" issues.

Sounds great! I'll try to keep an eye out for them. :)

I really think you'd like Heroes. If it did conflict with something else, maybe it no longer does - given the way schedules are constantly shuffled. Maybe you can find it on-line or catch up during summer reruns. It's worth it, and you've only missed one season so far.

I'm frustrated with Gilmore Girls precisely because I love the characters so much. Whoever took over the show this season has turned them into pod-people. They may look the same, but then they do something completely out of character. Gah!

So what have you been up to lately? How's Dodger and the daughter? :)

Almond sips the drink she decided to indulge herself with, but has second thoughts about that choice when she thinks she sees the goat ghosting past wearing one of the party hats. At least the red matches its eyes.....

Somehow I never got around to watching Heroes, which I understand is a big hit. It must have conflicted with some other show.

Almond, hi! So sorry to hear about your upcoming loss of an ISP.

I really like Bones and Veronica Mars and How I Met Your Mother and never miss them if I can help it. I still like Gilmore Girls despite some real clukers this season...I guess I just like the characters so much. I am a Lost fan, but it's on late now so I have to tape it. I never did get into Smallville. Ah, Firefly...what could have been. ( I liked the TV show better than the movie).

gothicwoman: I know this is very late, but thank you for the birthday wishes. :)
I wish I could reply to your Angel comment, but the only season I own is #5. I still haven't seen the end of "Rain of Fire" (the episode when Connor and Cordy sleep together). I fell asleep watching it when it first aired, and it's never been rerun that I've caught. Maybe I was lucky, though. When everyone was gagging over their pairing, I remained in ignorant bliss of the mental visual. :D

dogtrot: Do you buy the Buffy comics? I don't think I've ever even seen one around here.
I watched the WB's farewell to everything but Dawson's Creek (never had an interest in that show). I taped the Angel pilot to keep, and I was very happy to get it. :) Don't mention "good shows that didn't catch an audience" though. I'm still mad about Firefly!
Speaking of good shows, are you watching Heroes? That and Bones are my favorites of the newer programs. As for the rest, I'm still very caught up in Veronica Mars, Lost and Smallville. How I Met Your Mother has gotten much better (more Aly!), but this season of Gilmore Girls is so bad I'd quit watching if I wasn't so determined to see how it all ends. (cc EmilyBoo)

EmilyBoo: I wish I could remember the details of Everwood's final episode so I could fill you in, but I've forgotten. :(
You and hubby went to Paris? When? Tell us more!

Kung Fu Cowboy: Good job avoiding your axe's enthusiastic greeting! One has to stay sharp around otherworldly entities. :D I think there was a pun in there somewhere, but I won't belabor the point.
I have many questions for you - which is entirely your own fault, for writing such a nice post. :P
1. Are you enjoying working for the Army again?
2. Do you still plan on going to Uni? (To be a teacher, right?)
3. Have you seen Firefly yet? (You need to - it's fantastic!)
4. Did you get your dog? We had a beagle when I was a kid. (He was the first dog I remember having.) His name was Skipper, but we called him The Bushmuncher because he liked to eat my mom's decorative foliage. :)

Rack: I was reading your posts about the trip to New York, and when I got to the part about the much delayed postcard it struck a chord. If you think you have trouble with the postal service, you should experience our mail carrier! She gives our mail away to anyone within a two block radius of our house, and yesterday hubby found a piece of our downstairs neighbor's mail laying on the sidewalk! Since both daughters' tax return checks are coming to this address, we are more than a little concerned. Hubby had a talk with her.
I really enjoyed reading about your trip again. :) Too bad you can't post a link to some pictures. What have you been up to lately?

Well, I think that's everyone that posts here anymore. On the off chance we still have a few lurkers, I'd like to send out a big HELLO to tarasApprentice, Watcher, LdyKnight, Fire, Lionhunter, Mazzy, Gabrielle, Phoenix, Corsa and the rest of the old gang. I don't know how many of you remember QTWillow, but quite some time ago she asked me to say "hi" for her the next time I stopped by, so a very belated greeting from her, too. She's doing well - and in college now, believe it or not! Time flies.....

I'll be around until the end of the month. {{Hugs}} all.

Hello all!

I still check in whenever I get the chance. Unfortunately, I'm hardly ever on-line anymore, and I never have enough time to post when I am - despite my good intentions!
I wanted to say "hi" today, though, since I won't be around for awhile after the end of the month. We must drop our internet provider for an unknown length of time.

I just went for a quick scroll, and I was dismayed to realize I haven't posted anything since June! Long-overdue responses incoming soon...

A dog is a great companion. I've had dogs most of my life except when I was in school and in the service, always smallish dogs (about 25 pounders), terrier breeds mostly. Feisty little dogs, but a lot of personality. My pooch now is a wire haired fox terrier, but he'll be 13 in a few months and has slowed down a bit. He's a great dog. Actually he's my daughter's dog, but when she got married and moved away, he adopted me.

...and causes the bell to tinkle wildly. A heavily muffled figure stumbles inside, nearly blown over by the high winds from outside.

A semi-forgotten shape propped up in the corner twitches...

The figure removes scarf, jacket and hat to reveal none other than Kung Fu Cowboy! He only has a moment to shake himself off before the Extra-Sharp Battleaxe hurls itself at him in homicidal greeting to the long absent cowboy. Kung Fu catches the Battleaxe and holds it firmly watching the darkened corners of the Box for Imps, goats and the other denizens of the Shop who have difficulty typing.

For the moment satisfied that he isn't about to be accosted by anything otherwordly he places the Battleaxe down on the counter and settles in to see what's been going on...

Hi guys! I'm kind of sad that the Magic Box has calmed down so much but I guess I'm as much to blame as anyone. I am glad that things have been picking up in the last month or two and perhaps we can ressurrect some sort of community from our beloved board.

The thing is I've reformatted my PC a couple of times in the past few months and the fact that I haven't actually posted in a while has made this one of the last links I remembered to add to my favourites again :) .

Hmmm...things that I've been doing...Well things here are still pretty boring, having missed out on my spot at uni last year I finally ran out of money so had to find a job. One of the civilians that took over my job after I left the army had been calling me for a while asking me to come back and work for him, so after doing a few other jobs and finding nothing that actually interested me I finally caved in and went back to work for the Army. Things are largely the same, except the chance that I'll get shot at is significantly lower.

I eventually got Serenity on DVD, and loved it. I still haven't seen Firefly though. Seeing the actor that played Caleb in the last few eps of Buffy in the light of a good guy was a little strange though. Once I got over that I enjoyed it immensely. I've recently been watching Season 5 of Buffy again. In the Ep before Giles buys the Magic Box, and they walk into the shop to find the shopkeeper dead I nearly died laughing. Tara calls the shopkeeper [what sounds to me like] Mr Boggedy. After so many years of referring to the magic shop shopkeeper as the boogedy boogedy shopkeeper I nearly fell over. I'd never noticed it before.

Gothic I never saw much of that season of Angel so I'm not sure. With any luck I'll be getting the box set of Angel for by birthday so I'll check it up :)

In other news I'm going to get a dog in the next few weeks. I'm getting tired of living alone and we always had animals in the house when I was growing up, I think it's time for me to be responsible and get one of my own. I'd really love to get a beagle, as I've always liked the breed, but my plan is to go to the RSPCA and save a dog from death row. At this stage I'm looking to get a small - medium sized pooch. More on this subject as it develops.

Well it's late and I'm tired so I'm going to sign off now. Just thought I'd let you all know that I am in fact still alive [despite my own Extra Sharp Battleaxe's efforts to the contrary], and to check in with how all of you are going.

Kung Fu Cowboy places his Battleaxe gently in the corner behind the counter, careful not to jolt it against anything lest it rise up again. In a bowl on the counter he places something best left un-described for the Imp to eat, out of his [apparently enormous] pockets he takes a bag of feed and pours some into another dish for the goat. Kung Fu turns to leave but a dark shape on top of the bookshelf catches his eye. Struck by an idea [and self preservation] he fishes what looks to be a calf leg out and tosses it into the air near the shelf. A large black paw swipes out of the darkness and snags it. Unholy gnawing sounds are soon heard...

Satisfied that everything is content and no longer too hungry, Kung Fu picks up his belongings and makes for the exit

Peace out, love, hugs and all that stuff *poof*

Dogtrot EmilyBoo:

Unfortunately, I have bad luck with camera’s (and also watches and assorted other things too numerous to mention) and although I did take one with me the batteries appeared to have drained en route. Tarasapp, however, did take some photo’s, but I’d have to ask her permission before I could post links to them.

If faerie/tarasapp had mentioned to me earlier that Sweeny Todd was playing and that she wanted to see it then I could have made provisions to try and obtain tickets. Saturday would have been the only day that we could have seen it and it was mentioned far too late to realistically do anything about it. Shame really, as I wouldn’t have minded going to see it myself and I don’t think that I’ll be in New York and time soon.

I’ve been to Paris (although a good few years ago now) and I didn’t even know that they had a scaled down version of the Statue of Liberty. I noticed the Eiffel Tower in the background and this always makes me blush as I must be the only person in history who managed to be going the wrong way when they went visit the tower. I meant it’s a huge landmark, visible for miles and yet I failed to notice it. Thank you for posting the picture of mini liberty, if I’m ever in Paris again I’ll try and find it. That way I can complete the set.

Quite strangely, the postcard that I sent to the people at work arrive in the office today, two weeks and a day after I posted it ~ kind of makes you wonder why you bother.

Rack’s track of the week. This weeks offering is a classic from Y&T - Rescue me

Taken from Y&T’s 1981 Earthshaker album this long standing radio favourite is rather deceptive. The opening verse of “I was down, I was barely makin’ it / she was gone and I couldn’t take it/ I was looking for a new way of thinkin’/ When I go to sleep, I prey I wouldn’t wake up” accompanied by a single guitar may lull you into think that this is a typical rock ballard. But Dave Meniketti soon powers into a fully fledged rock offering. Whilst never one of the true guitar greats, Meniketti certainly knows how to put together nice a nice set of riffs. But it’s the lyrical content that gives “rescue me” its long standing appeal of someone lost in a sea of their own emotions and not quite able to find away out. This is the kind of some that almost anyone can relate to at some point in their life and is probably the reason for its enduring appeal.

Mr. Warlock (I knew that was your real name all along.) When faerie said you were visiting her, I wondered if you had had airport woes on your way out of your home land. I'm glad they didn't foul up your plans too much. Faerie said she was trying to get Sweeney Todd tickets while y'all were in New York, I'm guessing that didn't happen? I haven't heard. Hey, I have a Statue of Liberty story. I've never been to New York, but I've been to Paris, and they have their very own miniature statue of liberty. I don't know, she's maybe 12 feet tall? I can't remember what her story is, but I wanted to see her when I was there. So the hubby and I went on a long walk to get to where she was supposed to be, (I avoided the subways whenever possible... if the weather is nice, why not?) and it turned out she had gone on vacation! She was loaned out for some traveling art exhibit. LOL but we had some nice crepes with nutella from a little cart...

Well I’ve been as guilty of neglecting the poor Magic Box as much as anyone. But it seems such a shame to just let it crumble and fade away. Especially as it is home to my most precious present.

I think that one of the problems is that most people seem to have a live journal and they use that to keep in touch with old Bronzers and I’m sorry to say that I include myself in with them.

Still, as I’ve already posted this in my live journal and reason why I shouldn’t post it here too, so here’s a brief account of my recent trip to the states.

My vacation, the first for almost two years, took in both Los Angeles and New York. With the first part being in Los Angeles (or rather Long Beach) then a long weekend in N.Y. then back to L.A.

When I flew out of London’s Heathrow airport on the 12th August it was only a few days after the alleged plot to blow up transatlantic aeroplanes had been foiled. This resulted in heightened security at airports, with the result that many flights were being cancelled or severely delayed. In the way I was lucky that my flight was not cancelled but the nine-hour delay got to be a little tedious at times. The rather lengthy delay also meant that I can actually arrived in Los Angeles until the early hours of Sunday morning, and it was a very tired Mr Warlock, he picked up his Mustang and headed towards his hotel upon arrival.

As I haven't slept for the best part two days I spent the majority of Sunday in bed, not exactly the most thrilling way to start your holiday. Anyway, come Monday, I decided to start work on my tan and headed to Venice Beach. Despite practically embalming myself with suntan lotion I still managed to get little sunburnt, mostly on the back of my neck. Now only if I had one of those natty little hats, like the French foreign Legion wear.

Tuesday was one of the highlights for me, as this is when I got to meet tarasapprenticefor the first time in almost two years. Despite being friends for a few years we have only managed to meet face to face about three times prior to this trip. Several thousand miles and the odd ocean between us not really helping too much in that department either. Partly in order to redress this and partly as a little gift, I had invited our dear faerie to accompany me to N.Y. Beside, I needed someone to carry my bags for me.

Wednesday was the day, where I assisted (or should that be hampered) in the filming of the Melonpool spoof/parody of the "Snakes on a plane" film/quickcast. Both Steve (Troop, Melonpool creator and Mayberry Melonpool operator) and Rodger Przytulski (Sam the dog) are amazing puppeteers and both incredibly friendly people who made Mr. Warlock feel very at home. Steve even gave me a credit on the film (under the crew) which gives you a chance to find out my real name (click here to view the movie). After filming had finished for the day, Steve, faerie and myself had something to eat at a Mexican restaurant then headed to a comedy store called The Groundling Theatre to see "The Crazy Uncle Joe Show" who are an improvised comedy team. Although I was impressed with the way that they came up with the little skits, their humour and mine sometimes differed.

A Faerie(girl)Tale of New York

Friday and this was the day where faerie and I set off for New York. Security at the airport had also been increased in view of events in London, but mostly to the extent that no liquids or gel type products were allowed on to the plane as part of your carry-on. Not long after we had settled in our seats on the plane I happened to notice that someone in the row behind us had brought what looked like a coke or Starbucks’ coffee onto the plane. No soon had I commented on this to faerie then a flight attendant spotted the offending beverage and confiscated it. But that wasn’t the worst of it. Everyone had to get off the plane whilst they performed a full security sweep. This delayed the flight by about an hour. I had arranged for a limousine to pick us up from the airport but due to the flight delay it didn’t appear to be there waiting…oh hum. Not the start I was looking for. As it was quite late when we finally reached the hotel, we just had a quick bite to eat then retired to our separate rooms.

There became what for me was a regular highlight of the trip and that was seeing which incredible outfit the tarasapp would be wearing. When I meet her in the hallway at the start of each day or if we had changed to head off somewhere it was almost like my own version of project catwalk/runway. Most of Saturday was spent in central park and we even had a ride on one of those pony and trap buggy type thingies. I was pleased to hear that our horse was called "Billy" as this is the title of a Lawnmower Deth album (sorry, but I have to fit Lawnmower Deth into a post if possible). We then spent the remainder of the morning/ early afternoon in the Metropolitan Museum of art. Not too surprisingly faerie as a great understanding and appreciation of art, where as Mr. Warlock is more "Painting..pretty". But there are some truly wondrous exhibits in the Metropolitan, and it is well worth a visit if you ever happened to be in New York. After I unfortunately managed to get as lost on the way back to the hotel, we had a well-deserved rest before having something to eat before seeing "Clerks II".
I’m not too sure if I’ve seen the first "Clerks" film but I only know Kevin Smith's work from "Jay and silent Bob strike back" and I have to confess I don’t like that film at all. I don’t find it funny and even Eliza in tight black leather can’t save it. But "Clerks II" was very enjoyable, couple of things it could have done without, but on the whole well worth seeing.

Sunday and we took the opportunity to tackle the Empire State Building. Now as you may know Mr. Warlock doesn’t like heights and fall from heights even less. So why would he go up to the observation deck of such a tall building? I’m not too sure of the answer myself, but I wanted to make the trip as memorable as possible for tarasapp. Faeries have wings and are probably used to heights. Mr. Warlock has no wings and is used to being as close to the ground as humanly possible. This is probably why faerie was able to stand near the edge and take pictures and enjoy the sights whilst I clung on to a trash can for dear life. However this was not all it seemed, as although the trash can was bolted to the floor there was always the danger that some freak gust of wind would rip it from its fastenings and propel it over the edge where it could cause until damage or even death. So I saw it as my civic duty to ensure that it remained put.

"Spamalot" was the only thing that was already pre-planned as I had purchased tickets for the musical based on Python’s "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". Quite a few elements from the film were retained, I won’t spoil it by mentioning what they were but I didn’t like the ending at all. It was also strange seeing "Always look on the bright side of life" included as this will always for me belong to "Meaning of life". I have mixed feels about the musical and I’m not too sure if it really worked for me. It was almost as if it was trying to be Python then actually be Python if you get my meaning. Again after some nose bag (food to you) we when to see a film. This one was "The Descent" a sort of horror film where the horror part is very similar to another film that was out earlier in the year called "The Cave". Difference is this one has some strong female characters, in fact all the central characters are female which makes a nice change.

On our last day we took the chance to do some more sight seeing. This time we took in the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. I’d already seen the Statue of Liberty on my previous visit. For some reason she does seem as big as you imagine her to be and I can’t think why. After that we took in the little tour of "Little Italy" and sampled some fine Italian cuisine. There were quite a few shops displaying posters and team shirts of the Italian national football (soccer for you yanks) team. No doubt buoyed by the success in the recent football World Cup, although not surprising as they contained quite a few Juventus players (Mr. Warlocks favourite Italian team who have since suffered as the result of match fixing allegations).

Although I’d been to New York before this trip was extra special for me as I got to spend time and share it with tarasapprentice, for which I offer a very heartfelt thank you.

Now I’m back home and the clear blue skies have been replaced with some dark clouds and a little rain, somehow this seems appropriate to me

I guess there is still some life in the old Magic Box yet. I did watch the end of Everwood, one of my favorite shows, and I thought they did a pretty good job of wrapping it...especially given the time frame they had to do it. I think it had a few good years left. The WB/UPN connection has been a mixed blessing. They giveth and they taketh away (way too soon!). I was sure hoping the CW network would exercise better judgement. I mean, I've got nothing against 7th Heaven, but that show has run its course, imo.

My 58th birthday wasn't too traumatic. I think my hair line receded another inch. Went out to dinner with my daughter and mom, but I'm darned if I can remember where (not too surprising considering my advancing years).

I'm still liking Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Lost, Bones, Desp Houswives, Scrubs and a few others. But none of them are Buffy-good.

I hope you enjoyed your foray to WalMart.

It's a little late to ask, but did you do anything special on your birthday? 58 is one of the big ones, you know. Hey - they're all big after 50! :)
I was sad to hear Invasion was canceled. It was really getting interesting! Did you watch the final Everwood? They wrapped it up nicely.

Watcher: Thank you for taking care of our problem. :) If we are going to have a se*-bot around here, I'd much rather it was Buffy!

Hello Emily, Gothic, Kung Fu, Phoenix and Rack! (I only glanced at the first page, so if I missed a recent poster I'm sorry.)

I need to scroll more to have more to say - which I will do tomorrow. Hubby and I are going out of town today. He's in search of wheel covers for our car. I'm not in search of anything, but if we go to the Super!Walmart, I bet I'll find something anyway. :) In the meantime...

Almond leaves a pot of coffee and a plate of cinnamon buns for the early morning not-posters. Then she snaps her fingers at the dust and cobwebs to make them go the way of Banned Maria. The bell rings as she heads out the door.

Happy Birthday to Dogtrot!!!

I'll try to get back soon to chat, but in the meantime here's a little something for all the Serenity fans to drool over. *g*

Cool stuff - including movie props if you poke around a bit!

Leaves everyone a big {{HUG}} and kicks "Maria" on her way out the door.

i have been re-watching season 3 of buffy and when i watched the one after "bad girls", a thought struck me.

does anyone else see faith and the mayor as complete opposites? he is supposed to be wholesome, clean (apart from evil!), a family man, she is dirty, kinky and very dark. it was when he offered her a glass of milk, and she refused it, that i noticed it. she is like the speed freak, and he was trying to bring her down (milk neutralises the acid in speed, and helps you to come down) but she refused it.

isn't that weird?

Gothic, House is a medical drama on Fox about a team of doctors who diagnose strange illnesses that are very hard to identify. House is the last name of the lead character. http://www.fox.com/house/

dogtrot, did you watch MT on House? She was good.

It's been nice to follow the Buffy alums on the various shows, and I'll try to watch House tonight to see MT.

Yep, I'm still here on and off. I check in every couple of days in the vain hope that someone has anything to say. Sadly it appears that our beloved board is in decline.

Not being in the US I haven't seen either of the shows you mentioned, but I'm glad Aly is in something at the moment. Television in the Land Down Under hasn't improved, I'd watch the simpsons but I'm afraid I've seen all of the old episodes at least 5 times, and knowing that, I haven't been watching so I miss the new ones when they're on too :(

Apart from that it's cop shows, reality TV and Lost, none of which pique my interest.

See! There are real people still here! I know I saw em!

Apparently I still need to use the link at the top to post though...sigh

One moment??!!

ok, I'll try:

Season 4, Restless, Buffy, with black hair in the play Death of a Salesman, rants her diatribe against men to Riley in the cowboy outfit.

This is too hard!

Season 4, Hush: Willow's appalled expression when Buffy pantomimes the "staking" of the Gentlemen.

I could go on and on.

Almond - i will indeed give Fortune Teller your congratulations. she is very happy about the new baby. i am going over her house tonight for a chinese and some dvds. eep!

what was one of your favorite Buffy moments? - erm, i would have to say that the one where my heart really lifted (and i still get butterflies when i see it now)is at the end of once more, with feeling when spike and buffy finally snog! it's so passionate and unexpected when you think there will be an anticlimax when all the fun is over! i love that bit!

...to say "hello" and leave some {{hugs}} for all and sundry. I hope each of you are enjoying the holidays. *s*
We have had our tree and all our decorations up since shortly after Thanksgiving. Our apartment is so sparkly! Of course, it helps that I put in a lot of time cleaning just before Turkey Day. *g* I have all my presents bought and wrapped up pretty, and yesterday I finished getting the last of the cards ready for mailing - for everyone whose address I have, that is. Frowns at Kung Fu, who never did give her his real life address. Dogtrot and Gothic - your cards are already on their way. Some people will have to settle for e-cards, though. *g*
Now I can relax and do the things that come with the season. Watching holiday specials on tv, driving around at night looking at all the shiny decorations, making cookies with Girl-Not-A-Child, going to the mall and feeling superior to the frantic shoppers...
Oh! And last Saturday hubby, my two daughters and I went to a local production of The Nutcracker! All the dancers were between 8 and 19 years old, but they were very good. The costumes and stage settings were beautiful. We enjoyed it very much. The best part was seeing the theatre itself, though! It was a movie-house I used to go to as a child that has recently been restored to its former wonders. The walls look like a fairy-tale castle and the ceiling is a "sky" with little lights twinkling like stars in the night. So pretty! I can't imagine why anyone wanted to cover all that with boring plain-colored walls - but they did. Thank Joss it's back to its original condition! Well, all but two gargoyles that went missing from some "tower windows". I'll bet someone made off with them when the theatre was "up-dated". Fiends! Wishes SHE had beaten them to the gargoyles.....well, maybe not.

So what has everyone else been up to? Have you written your letter to Santa yet? Better hurry!

Dogtrot: I got your card - thank you! I was so happy that you included the picture from your daughter's wedding. *s* Are you getting together with her and her husband for Christmas?

What sort of DVDs are being released? (Yes, I know Buffy, but what makes them different?)

Gothic: I've gotten pictures from you (though not recently), but I don't remember hearing that Fortune_Teller is expecting again. How wonderful! Tell her congratulations for me, will you?

Kung Fu: Have you tried using the button Dogtrot mentioned at the top of the page? (It's a little to the left of the archives.) That one works better.

Don't ever feel it's too late to respond - we want to hear from you!

Just to keep the "Buffy spirit" alive, here's a question for everyone:
Off the top of your head (and no fair consulting transcripts or DVDs), what was one of your favorite Buffy moments?

Leaves coffee and cookies for the denizens of the Box - on a shelf high enough to foil the goat.

There a a number of tv shows I like, but none approaches BtVS. I think it was a once-in-a-generation show. I just read more about a possible series of dvd releases on the whedonesque site. But I'm not going to get too excited, yet.

Well guys it appears that most of us are still here, or at least that we stop by occassionally. I must admit to being a little lazy on the posting side in the last few months I've been kinda busy, then I try to post and the button doesn't work or I wait too long and I feel it's too late to respond.

I did finally complete my buffy DVD collection so I've been watching that a bit. It struck me that there are no shows on television currently that can catch my imagination like Buffy did [and to a lesser extent, Angel]. It saddens me that it's over and it's unlikely that it will continue in the future.

As for posting elsewhere I did post at the Bronze Beta for a while after the Original Bronze went down from the buffy website [a loooong time ago before the site was revamped the first time], but then I stopped and when a few months later I tried to post again I found I knew very few of the people there [apart from the ancient denizens of the Bronze of course; Mrs. Beasley, Old One, Thumper, Thoin and others I can't think of off the top of my head [HUGE S.O. if you're reading this by the way!]], so I felt a little unwelcome. Then I found that the Bronze was back up on the WB website, and I began posting there, but they shut it down *sniff* So with renewed vigour I found I had to post on the Beta to get my fix, and then I found The Magic Box, where I felt truly at home.

The fact that people have actually posted in the last few days gives me hope that perhaps we can resurrect the Box.

...or evolution. People move on. I shall miss it.

The Magic Box was more than a Buffy message board. It's a meeting place for friends that allowed for creative expression and the sharing of information. This was the best alternative for The Bronze that I found - it had the same type of atmosphere in a more intimate setting. Too intimate, apparently, as our numbers were not enough to allow for attrition. :(

I'm terrible with e-mails. I put them off until I feel I can write without sharing too much that might bring down the person to whom I'm writing. Sometimes too much time passes and I feel as though it's too late to respond. Plus, I never do anything interesting. At least here, I could write nonsense in italics to entertain the troops.

Where are you mostly when you are on-line? I scroll The Beta occasionally, but I haven't seen you there lately. I tried posting there, but was never quite comfortable. I'm more "chat lice" than "deep thoughts". :)

By the way, writing in the box, then copying and pasting it into the other box seems to work. That's something, anyway. :)

I'm trying the link at the top of the page to see if it lets me post. I don't like it, though. It doesn't let me see what other people have written, so comments are difficult. Maybe if this works, I can type in the regular box, copy it, then paste it into this box.

I don't really have anything to say. I haven't been anywhere interesting lately, my days are filled with mundane matters, and I'm much too lazy to express an opinion on current events.

I think Buffy had a good run, and we were lucky to have it as long as we did. I try not to get too excited about new shows anymore, because it seems as though the "quality" programs don't last long. I feel fortunate that there are quite a few shows on at the moment that I enjoy.

Everyone getting ready for the holidays? I have some of my Yule/Christmas shopping done already. I told hubby all I want is the Serenity dvd.

Dogtrot: Looks like we'll have to put up with the porn links.
