Subject: Action in 'Serenity'
In reply to: Darby 's message, "I was absolutely, totally wrong, and so was Fox (Serenity spoilers)" on 19:15:31 12/20/02 Fri

Even though the amount of action in 'Serenity' declined after the first half hour, I thought it was exciting all the way through. The suspense involved in dealing with the governemnt mole and trying to get money for the stolen goods and getting away from the Reavers (sp?) kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. The slower scenes, such as the ones between Book and Inara, were a welcome rest from the suspense and added depth to the characterizations in a way that non=stop action can't.

Really, I was completely floored by this pilot ep. Because of the way that Fox asked for a different one, I was expecting it to be boring or something, and it was so exciting to me I just couldn't understand what they saw that made them want to shelve it. It was the best thing I've seen on a television screen since 'Once More with Feeling,' and the whole way through I just kept thinking about how well 'Serenity' would have worked as a feature film. Surely this can't be simply the Joss fan in me feeling this - I can't understand why Fox didn't completely fall in love with this pilot and promote the hell out of it. Who could possibly look at this and say, "ehh, we need something better"?
