Subject: O/T New Series "Hack" (*Spoilers for First Three Eps*)

Since there was no Firefly last night I'm taking the liberty of posting on a totally unrelated new series, Hack, staring David Morse and Andre Braugher.

Anybody else seen this yet? The first two eps were unremarkable, except for the incredible acting of Morse, playing the main character, a busted cop turned taxi driver named Oshansky. I hadn't seen much of him previously, and in what I had he was always an unsullied "good guy," and quite often on the verge of tears. Well, he's still pretty much on the verge of tears (or at least he looks like he is) but his character in Hack is about the most multidimensional I've ever seen on the small screen. Added to that, the show's PTB are taking advantage of the fact that Morse is a (really) big guy, and using his physical size and strength as a threat and an asset. I don't remember that being done with him before (possibly because he always looks as if he's on the verge of tears!).

Hack is a direct descendant of The Equalizer, and there's even a character (the taxi dispatcher/owner) played by an actor who was a regular on that show, as Jimmy. Oshansky was booted off the force for helping himself to part of the money in a drug bust. The irony is, his partner (Braugher) shared the money, but wasn't caught and is still on the force. Oshansky is separated from his wife, and has a young son, Michael. Oshansky's best friend is a priest, played by George Dzundza (sp?). Every ep, Oshansky picks up a fare who just happens to need help that only he can provide. He has all the skills and most of the connections of a copy, but none of the hindrances--IOW, he's quite happy to threaten and intimidate potential witnesses, burst into private homes, etc, etc.

Now that I've laid out how unlikely and possibly silly this show can be, let me say again that Morse's acting makes it more than worth watching. And, in last night's ep, the writing was similarly superb, along with the acting talents of the guest stars.

I'll stop now and wait to see if anyone else has seen this or has an opinion, before I gush any further.
