When I like an episode, I'm totally sucked in. I'll gloss over plot holes and bits of bad dialogue in my enjoyment. Only when the episode is over, do I look back and admit that there were parts that didn't work. The flaws don't stop me from liking the episode even then.

On the flip side, if I'm constantly noticing slips and errors in an episode, I know it's not going to be a favorite. An episode fails for me when I'm forced to look at the trees instead of the forest.

I find this is the same approach I use for books and movies as well as tv. Only the very best of each engender discussions and analysis for months after they are consumed.
