Something was amiss. Unlike his friend, who appears to be all nervous action, he is still, watchful, curious...sympathetic. However, instead of blurting out an inquery, he merely tilts his head and continues to smile.

Should I say: 'I'm here for you, Firelight, so spit it out!'? Or should I wait? Does she even want to tell? He scoffs silently at himself. Why would she want to tell you? You're about two years younger than she, and far less experienced. Besides which, you haven't even known her for that long, even though you act as if you've been close friends with her for like forever.

"Sounds almost boring," he says with a grin. "Isn't there anyone interesting there? Anything interesting to do?" He deliberately avoids the subject of himself: if she wants to keep secrets, so can he. Besides, he isn't so sure he wants to talk about the recent events in his life -- it would force him to confront something he hadn't even wanted to think about, admitting that his father has faults.
