The ebullient elements snatch at his spirit, flinging it up and away with kamikaze exuberance like a leaf in a gale, his body suddenly coursing with a wild and reckless energy. This inevitable and unforgettable momentum carries him through the instant she steps forward, heartbeat a hidden thunder within him, but falters in a brutal descent into bathos as the one truly breathtaking sight moves past, out of his line of vision.

Like a puppeteer's creation his head turns to follow her path, his anticlimatic downfall from that precious moment's ecstasy not quite complete, his will only strengthened and determination fuelled by the salt she rubs into the wounds he inflicted upon himself. Thus steel-strung muscles move like oiled snakes beneath his sodden hide; the first of four nails sends dizzying droplets in a thousand directions as it plunges into the quicksilver. His steps then slow, taking him with undertaker's solemnity to her side... so close. he echoes in a whisper not far from her ear.
