Subject: what the...?

In reply to: Jim (Canada) 's message, "Nice design, Andrew. It neads some red though. Perhaps colour half of the triangles red. I had an idea similar to this two years ago." on 17:49:30 01/28/05 Fri

It seems like the forum is being spammed by mysterious forces beyond our control. Does this happen this happen often? Anyway I'd like some more opinions on the Federal Commonwealth Flag I designed. I think this flag is a legitimate option, so let me know everyone!

I rather like it. I'm not sure about the Crown, though. It makes it look more like a Royal Standard than a national flag. If, however, we go down the route of confederation, retaining our national flags, then a royal-type banner would be appropriate as the supra-national confederate flag.

If, however, we stick with federation proper and our present national flags were to be phased out, then I think that the crown is probably a bad idea. That brings us to the problem of what to replace it with, because your excellent flag is clearly designed to have something in the centre, and would look weaker without it.

Any suggestions?

Yes, I thought about that as well. But, like you said, I think the flag would look weaker without it. That's why I originally wanted to put a Crown similar to the one in the Flag of British Columbia(for those of you who don't know what it looks like, here's a link for you http://www.worldatlas.com/webimage/flags/countrys/namerica/canada/bc.htm ). That Crown is simpler and more stylised, and it would make the FC Flag looks less like a Royal Standard. I think I'll probably make a new version with that Crown in the centre over the next day or so. I'm also open to any other suggestions for things to put in the centre of the flag.

How about alternating blue and red triangles on your flag? You will get four red ones and four blues ones. This can show the four red ones representing the four major realms (UK, Canada, Australia and NZ) and the four blue ones can represent Quebec and the island nations in the oceans. Blue and red can also represent the Scots and the English. Then, you have the red, white and blue of the Union Flag, also. You can put the generic crown from the British Columbia flag in the middle. It will look quite good. Just change every second triangle to red.

Andrew i like your flag design very much too. You should try Jim's idea (blue and red triangles) with the BC Crown and another still with Jim's idea but with the initial crown you put on the first design!

I sent an email to the bloke in Peshawur and he quoted me 11,000 Pakistani rupees, or about 100 quid. I'll get it made up when I am feeling sufficiently solvent, and certainly before the next Last Night of the Proms!

First off I'd just like to thank everyone for the feedback! I'm glad you all like it, and I'm in the process of making the alternate desgins that you all suggested. I'll post the new designs as soon as I can. Thanks again!
