Subject: I took the plunge

I am 66 years old and 6' 5" tall. I first played golf when I was 10. I purchased a used/demo set of irons and could not be happier with the condition of the clubs I received. The clubs were well packaged prior to shipping. As recommended, I went to the range and hit over 300 balls during the last eight days before playing my first round today. Generally I gained a few yards versus my Pings, loft for loft. Almost all the ball flights were straighter and higher. I had one of my better scores of the year! The glaring exception is the 3 iron which I continue to have difficulty getting airborne off the deck. Even off a tee I can not hit it very high. Perhaps I need more refinement of my swing. Mr. Lake was very responsive answering my pre-purchase questions. So far I am very satisfied with my decision to commit to the single length concept and my choice of the One Iron Golf System! Thanks.

The problem you are having with the #3 iron stems from the fact that it has a #3 printed on it – nothing more. Believe me, it is all mental and causes you to unconsciously use a different swing with this iron as opposed to your higher lofted irons. Because the #3 iron is supposed to be a distance iron you are unconsciously trying to swing too hard. Again unconsciously, you are swaying laterally into impact to try and add power. Both of these faults will eliminate any chance of success with low lofted irons. Click on the following link for a perfect example of this: Ball Striking

Mr Lake,
Thank you very much for the feedback. It certainly makes sense. I played my second round today and again had similar results as I previously described (straighter, higher & longer). I had two realistic birdie opportunities today, sand wedge from about 100 yds out and nine iron from 140 yds out; both ending up 3 to 4 feet from the pin, the nine iron shot almost went in for an eagle. I am enjoying the clubs and will endeavor to overcome my problems with the 3 iron. I hit a great 4 iron today so I am sure it is only a matter of further practice and mental adjustment as you suggest before the 3 iron will come around. I highly encourage those golfers "sitting on the fence" to also "take the plunge" and commit to single length irons, as it makes so much sense and it works! Thanks again.

Hi I have hit some of the longest 3 irons of my life with these irons. It is just a matter of not trying to hit the ball too hard and just make a nice even easy swing.I recall hitting a 3 iron into a green into a stiff breeze which I thought I had no chance of getting to and hit the ball very easily. I got to the green to my amazement.
