I switched to wrist putting this past fall and I am never going back to a "conventional" stroke (funny how convention sometimes changes over the years). Why? Because after reading David's tip and several practice sessions, the benefits of wrist putting were clear.

First, better distance control due to the smaller range of motion in the wrists versus the arms and shoulders. And second, no yips. I contend that putting is a fine motor skill, and as such our natural instinct is to engage the wrists and hands. The yips can thus be seen as an attempt to suppress this instinct, especially the closer the ball is to the hole. So instead of fighting nature I think it makes more sense to go with it, especially since the small muscles are better suited to the job than the big ones.

As for putters, some are of course more conducive to wrist putting than others and you have to find one that suits you. For myself, I wound up settling on one of the Odyssey Toe-Up models because I like the way it flows more straight-back-and through than on an arc.
