Subject: set up with 1 irons

David,
I have had the complete set of one iron clubs for about 6 months now and love them.I played yesterday and shot an 87 which is phenominal for me.
I do notice some confusion in my set up though. I play single axis golf a la Todd Graves instruction. They insist the left arm should be straight at set up, i.e. Moes' rod and claw. Your playability tips however suggest this set up is not appropriate with the 1 irons. Are the clus designed not to be set up with a straight left arm, and if so how could one work around this? I have found that setting up closer to the ball seems to help as does a slight closed stance. The key problem seems to be my inconsistency in setting up with the club square to the target line. Any thoughts?
P.S. I assume the white lines at the bottom of the club face are for alignment also?
Thanks for your input.

Ed:

Sorry to interject before David, but I have personal experience with Graves and 1Iron. I think David's recommendation refers to keeping the full loft of the 1Iron clubs. When you use the "rod" setup for the lead hand you effectively reduce the loft slightly. I use the Graves setup (for the eight iron lenghth only, of course) and it works just fine. Straight line motion does require a hands forward setup. I still hit my irons quite high. I certainly think it's personal preference, but that's been my experience. Good luck!

Ed,

1 Irons are not golfing method specific which means that they are effective using any golfing method and set-up. You can certainly use the straight left arm approach that Graves suggests.
