Hello every one,
I am waiting for my new Set of Blackstone irons, driver and 3 wood and read almost every word here in the forum and on the website. I love the concept and believe it and in a couple of days I will receive them here in Egypt and be the first one ever in my club that uses this. Maybe in the hole country. I don’t know we are not that much in Egypt anyway.
I hope to get you some new customers here :).
But this is Not my topic.
I wanted to ask if any one here tried other grips than the one delivered with the set. I am a little unorthodox: I used the Jambomax Light XL ( exactly the ones Dechambue uses) and then went a little bit smaller to the Medium ones. I am slightly above avarage with my hand size but not huge. And I swing my driver around 100mph. I am still 43 but just started golf 3 years ago.
The thing is you have to change the grip with sizes like this. And coming from Tennis all of my life before golf, loved that feeling of more grip in my hands.
The thing is I am afraid that the grips that well come with the Set even if they are regular Jumbo they are not crazy big as the ones I am using now and wanted to ask experts and experienced here among you if you think I should try to stick with delivered grips or should I change to one of my crazy sizes. What are your thoughts about the effect of shot shape, club speed and distance. The weight and b askance of the clups? What are your experiences with other grips on these lovely clubs.

Hey David,
I have had my Blackstones for almost 2 years and it is time to get some new grips. I really like the feel of the Jumbo Max Tour grips. However, the original grips are about 81 grams and the Jumbo Max Tour XS are 90 grams. This obviously would throw off the balance of my clubs you designed. Presently, the clubs Swing Weight is C7 but this grip would change the balance and produce a C5 Swing weight. Would you recommend that I add 4 grams of weight in the cavity of the head which would balance the club back to C7?

Really appreciate your thoughtful and insightful perspectives!
I’m 6’5.5” without shoes. My wtf is 38.4”. I also have quite long legs.
I swing a 7 iron at 95 mph.
I was looking at my options for clubs and didn’t like the prospect of playing a traditional 40.5 inch 3 iron (plus 1.5 inch) because of the inevitable high swing weight, high total club weight, over flex/twist and moi matching challenges through the set.
So liked your one length solution instead.
When looking at the blackstones, I was wondering what the swing weight was for the 38.5 inch clubs?
I also wanted to ask whether you counter weight the grip beyond the 50gm grip standard or reduce the iron head weights for the 38.5 inch sets?
My other query was in yardage gapping. I understand the solution of taking slower and shorter swings closer to the green with the wedge. Do you suggest a certain type of golf ball to reduce max height on the ie 7 to pw lofted clubs?
How close are the blackstone 3 and 4 iron lofted club distances in comparison to the more traditional lighter head and longer shaft 3 and 4 iron clubs which probably generate more club head speed?

Hi David,
I’m trying to consider which irons to go with. My wtf with shoes is 38.4 inches so the irons would be the 38.5 inch ones.
Are the proline and blackstone irons the same total weight?
Do they both have the same shaft or do the prolines have a stiffer tip?
I hit the ball quite a long way and I’m wondering if the benefits of a stronger lofted 17 degree iron are better or whether the higher lofted 59 degree would be of more value?
I’m also wondering how the swing weight of a 38.5 inch iron with a 265gm head would perform and feel? And whether there are weight differences of the iron heads, shafts and grips used on irons with a length of 38 vs 38.5 inches?

I have read the golf tips page and it states fairway woods and irons are center of stance and driver is off left heel. Decided to go through my 1 iron clubs range session.
Proline line irons very good trajectory and distance is good for me, DH driver working out a swing change but great results, hooks are gone.
5 and 7 woods not so great. Making center contact I can see the impact marks but just dead. No feel at all. I don’t know if it’s the shafts or head.
Ran back home got my ping G410 4 snd 3 hybrid and my 5 wood. Hot faces crushing them easily pass the 1irons Woods. Note Ping Graphite stiff stock shaft.
Went back to the 1iron woods same thing. Dead face.
Going to give them another 3 range sessions, for now I cannot put them in the bag. Hitting straight to a baby draw no direction issues. Slight divot do contact is good.
Any thoughts from any one.???

I got the proline irons with 5 and7 woods with driver.
Had the irons so great as always. Driver working out great. Traditional wedges work great for me.
The woods feel way too heavy, static and swinging them. Like sledge hammers.
I kept the plastic on them and have not hit them, but my intuition tells me my swing speed will be way down. Any thoughts before I take the plastic off and hit them?

First off, I really love my Blackstones iron. The 19-degree iron is my new favorite club. It's just amazing how easy it is to hit it far.
But this got me thinking: Why isn't there a 15-degree iron? I prefer the look of an iron over a fairway wood.
I guess the 3-wood is simply superior to an iron.
But why is a 19-degree iron better than a 5-wood?

I thought I had posted a first review but cant find it.
I got the DH about 2 weeks ago and this would be my second range session. Back Ground I played 1iron clubs since the first Outburst Maltby design David came out with years ago.
In between I may have had at least 5 or 6 of David's sets.
So I know a bit of the progression of the irons.
Regardless I was getting used to the DH driver, probably over drawing a bit. And I thought a bit too high. So I lost a bit of distance. Today on a windy day the driver would balloon up badly. Sometimes its the simple things that make things better. I slowly moved the ball closer to my center and hit a few balls until I got that magic trajectory.
If one was looking at me set up face on you would say its too far back you will push it. But slowly moving back until the ball no longer ballooned and got that piercing ball trajectory. In my case the center of the driver was aligned to my center. If I deviated back or forward from that spot the ball would fade a bit or draw a bit. But still would have hit the fairway.
I was aiming in between 2 trees will doing this to see the variance of how much I could get away with.
My distance was at least as far as a well struck Sim2 Max which I also have but does not listen to me. The Sime is out and the DH is in.

I just received my Dark Horse driver today, I was very impressed with the looks and finish. The Images on line don't do it Justice.
I will have some feedback in a few days. I understand the shaft is designed for any golf swing speed. It will be interesting to me if I end up getting to much height for a 10.5o and shaft shafts feels extra light and a tad lower shaft or tip section soft.
But I will have to give a few range sessions to adjust before I play it.

Need some direction and advice……so my ball position with my New and awesome Blackstone irons is in the middle of my stance as instructed. Being a new single length player, I wanted to know if my ball position should change from the middle if I’m hitting from an uphill or down hill lye, or if I’m hitting with my feet above or below the ball on the course? Any guidance would be appreciated.
And on a side note, I played my first round of 18 holes this season and with the Blackstones for the first time Tuesday and I literally took 13 strokes off my best score from all of last year with conventional fitted clubs! Amazing how incredible these one length clubs are. And what a lie that is said by most of the golf world that the lower iron one lengths won’t go as far as conventional because they are shorter. I was smashing the Blackstones 3 and 4 iron over 200 yards straight onto the green. Most of the time with my fitted waste of money fitted clubs I could barely hit the 4 and 5 and when I did hit one perfectly in the sweet spot it did go as far or as straight as the Blackstones.

Hey David,
I have an older set of the Proline Irons that I still hit pretty well. I am not sure of the age but they have the stepless steel shafts and the heads look like the ones that are out now.
I wonder how much the tech has changed in these irons and if an upgrade is needed. I plan to upgrade my driver to the Dark Horse and add the 3-7 woods but want to keep the irons unless there have been significant advances in the last 5 or 6 years.

Is the head design of the Real Line different than the other three models? I think it says it is but it does not say that this means other than "truly dynamic ball striking"
Does this give advantages vs the other models?

Hello. Just purchased a full set. Driver to 59 degree. (See I didnt say lob wedge) Reading the forums and all the golf tips on the site. Center ball position I got that. But distance to the ball not sure. Do you set the club so lines are parallel then get into stance? I’m 6’3 so this is going to be a big change. My clubs are 1/2 inch longer than standard now. So uncomfortable feel like I’m so hunched over.

Mr. Lake, I've read you don't believe there have been significant changes in iron tech over the last 20+ years. I'm curious on your thoughts on hollow body iron design... fairly new tech that has taken over the big brands' iron lineups. I think the most apple to apple example is comparing One Iron Golf to Wishon/Sterling Golf. The first set of Sterling one length irons were cavity backs similar to One Iron Golf's cavity backs. Their new set of Wishon one length irons are hollow body design
1. What do you think about hollow body design?
2. Do you plan on making a hollow body design option?
I have another question that is along these same lines - what are your thought on the new "player's distance" iron category. I'd say the best comparison here is Cobra's forged tec one length option. Do you have any intention of adding a payer's distance iron to your lineup?... or adding a player's iron to your lineup?

I have played my new Regal irons four times and have shot my best rounds those four times. Solid ball contact and superior distance/accuracy, plus they look great and everyone is asking where I got them.

Noticed some toe down divots at the range so I took some swings using a lie board and took some swing using lie angle tape. We came to the conclusion I should be about 2 degrees upright. I've seen Mr. Lake state these clubs SHOULDN'T and CAN'T be adjusted... so Mr. Lake, do you recommend changing my entire swing rather than changing my lie angle? A swing change seems significantly more difficult than a lie angle change

I bought a set of demo 1Irons late last season and didn’t really have time to get used to them. Now that I’ve had some time with them I really like the feel, the ball flight and direction (straight). But I am a full club shorter. Now I never was a long hitter and have always used one or two clubs more than my playing partners. I am leaning toward age as the problem (75). My question is: would changing to the lighter club head weight Blackstones help in this distance shortfall? My ego takes a beating when I pull the 5 where I used to pull the 6 or a 9 instead of a PW. Thanks for the help and I really am enjoying the single length experience.

I got my set of 1 Iron clubs, driver down to lob wedge, almost two months ago. My set includes the 3,5,7 woods. I've been loving the driver and irons, but I just haven't been able to get the woods to work consistently. I'm topping the ball a lot, and when I do get a good strike, I don't seem to get a ton more distance than my 5 iron. I've experimented with the ball position in my stance a bit and focused on sweeping the club off the turf, but so far I just can't hit them right.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a recently converted single-length player who is thrilled to have made the change. I purchased a cheap knock-off set as a proof of concept and am now ready to buy "good" clubs and love the philosophy that David Lake and 1 Iron have in their engineering. But before pulling the trigger, I have one concern / question and that is the size of the grips.
I have relatively small hands (measuring 7.25" from the base of the palm to the tip of my middle finger). Have any 1 Iron players had any difficulties adjusting to the oversized grips? Any positive / negative feedback or thoughts?

Hello,
Picked up a set of Pro Lines (3-LW) during 2021 holiday discounts. In my first year of commitment to get better, these irons helped me break 100, then a month later shot an 84 at a par 72. Approach shots and putting were automatic that afternoon!
Based on the fitting guidelines, my set is +1.5”. Facing reality, this is a system designed for a fixed lie angle. At +1.5” with a 63.5 degree lie, it’s perfect for face direction. Problem is that the ball is too far and I prefer to play over my swing path more. What is the maximum upright lie angle adjustment that can be made to the pro lines? I would like to chop an inch off (37.5” total) and adjust lie to account for my relatively upright stance.
Next up is the shafts. I’m 42 and while I still have a high swing speed (hit my 3 iron avg 250 yards), prefer lighter graphite shafts. Any cost effective, low torque graphite suggestions? Stock shafts are rock solid, no complaints if I preferred the heavier shaft. The specs on the Maltby offerings look tempting, but not sure if the 1-iron design is using modified tipping to generate launch.

I have always thought longer and longer clubs just force people to overcompensate on the return.. messes up everything, especially as one ages. Anyway, I am a senior woman, good player, not great. I'm currently playing the Sterling single length irons. They were custom built for me a little over 2 years ago. However, the club builders electronic range device wouldn't allow for single length irons. So during the gapping session, he was guessing as to the tweaks he had to make. The result is 5-7 yard gapping on some clubs and 15 yard gapping on others. The lie angle was adjusted on all the clubs, but I constantly fight from going left on some of the clubs. It's either in my grip or the clubs are too upright or to long (37") I think.
Anyhow, I'm trying to decide between the Proline with a little stronger loft vs the Blackstones. I'm 70, with bad shoulders, but still have an ok swing. Drives are 210, 3 wood 180, 7 wood 165. Currently a 12 hcp.
When I got the Sterlings, I got a 4 iron with them. Well 2 years later, I've dropped the 4 iron, thinking about dropping the 5 and have gotten a 3,4 & 5 hybrid but have a hard time holding greens with the hybrids. I get a tremendous amount of height from the 8-gw. 5,6 & 7 are starting to get lower, but the distance is about the same as the 1st day. 135 7, 145 6, 160 5 with roll out no longer stops.
I'm leaning towards the driver, 3,5,7 fairway woods and 5-lw of the proline to eek out a few more yards. On a few of your comments that you have made in the past about the 3,4 being so easy to hit, based on the info I provided, what would you suggest?
3,4 iron or fairway woods? Proline for a little more distance or Blackstone for height. I'm asking because I can't find anywhere anything about the comparison of the ball flight and distance of the two.

I purchased the driver, #3 wood, all 11 of the Blackstone irons, and putter in September. Since receiving them I have played 20+ rounds of golf. The first few rounds weren't great (I wasn't used to playing single-length irons and tried to play them like standard irons). Once I got the hang of it I started nailing all of the clubs with the accuracy of an archer. Long and straight. In that short period of time I've dropped 10 strokes off my game. By far the best clubs I have ever owned.

Hi,
I will be receiving my Blackstone irons in the next 2 days in Australia and I'm very excited.
I have been looking through the forums and noticed like others, that the design of the irons has remained the same for some time.
I have also seen that this is due to only implementing proven golf technologies which is great to see. My question is simply;
With the recent development of hollow body Irons, boasting things like added distance through thinner faces, forgiveness through thicker soles as well as nice profiles for beginner friendly irons, would implementing technology like this in traditional lofts with uniform gapping (this is something I find infuriating about the golf industry) ever be technology worth looking into? or is it simply design hype to get me to spend more money?
Secondly, if this isn't the kind of advancement that is considered to be enough to justify a change, what would?
Either way I'm very excited to see my new irons soon.

I am 58, new to golf but believe that the single length system is the way to go. So much so that I bought the Pro Line irons and wedges from 3 iron all the way through Lob Wedge.
Being inexperienced, I watch a lot of videos on forward shaft lean, proper body positioning etc. I've read all your tips and FAQs to try and learn what right should look like.
My question is, with the one length, is forward shaft lean something I need to work on or is my point of impact and swing the same from 3 to LW? This may be an answer I should know but I've only been playing since March of this year and have no previous experience. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.

I'm a little confused that with my Blackstones. I'm to setup with the ball position in the middle of my stance and with the upright posture, which brings the ball closer to the body. It's mentioned we can use the single plane swing, but If I were to use the single plane swing, I would have to move the ball position further away, so should this swing not be used?

David, was reading your instruction on wrist putting. I tried it out and it seems to be a lot more accurate for me than the usual method. One question I have for you is whether you let your arms move at all or just swing your wrist through the swing? It feels awkward for me to finish with my left wrist cupped but I'm guessing this is because I'm new at this.

I read an article where Bryson was talking about center of gravity. He was discussing how you could move the COG "up" on the shorter irons to help prevent "ballooning" and "down" on the longer irons to help "fliers." Is this something 1 iron golf does? I've tried to look through the website to find some club tech informations and couldn't find much... I saw some info on the blackstone irons but wasn't sure if that help true for the other sets

Just wanted to post a review on these clubs. I'm about 9 days from my 30 day refund opportunity but can tell you it won't matter, I will be keeping the clubs, I really like them. I have 5 main reasons for keeping them. There are more but I want to keep it short. 1) American Made, I sought out a company that makes clubs in America. Last year I decided I was going to start supporting American companies as much as possible. You can bet the majority of people you play with have foreign made clubs. You can buy cheap clubs or you can buy good quality clubs made for you, its a pretty simple decision to me 2) The single length clubs philosophy makes sense to me. I like the thinking behind it and wish I would have found out about it sooner. 3) The customer service of 1Iron is great. David, the President, emailed me after I had a question about shipping time. I was just wanting to make sure I would have them for an annual Fathers Day golfing trip and he stated it shouldn't be a problem. Sure enough I got them about a week before the trip. 4) Quality, I feel like these are quality clubs. The fitting part of it is so simple. People always told me it looked like my clubs were to short in the past and now I know they were. These feel good in my hand and I like telling people I got "fitted" for them. 5) The golf tips and forum are a major help. Davids advice on these clubs is great. When you buy them, read the tips over and over. The single length clubs are so unconventional that this advice is priceless and a great guide. Read and read over and over and you will get it. In closing, I'm still learning these clubs. I have played with them about 6 times as of this review and each time I seem to get more and more out of them. Remember it is a learning process, especially if you played golf "the wrong way" for many years like I did.

Just bought a set of 1iron clubs. I absolutely love them, as they have helped me improve my consistency.
Here is my question: a golf pro told me that, at setup, I should not have the sole of the irons completely flat on the ground behind the ball. Instead, I should address the ball such that the toe of the club would lie just above the ground (so that more of the heel would be on the ground).
Does this make sense? Or, does the 63.5 degree lie angle of the 1iron clubs take that into consideration?

After much prodding from my son, I “dove into” golf buying a set of 1 Irons July of last year. I “found “ 1 Iron in researching the insanity I perceived in each club being a different length when using my son’s clubs the very few times I golfed with him. The idea that your bent over swinging a PW and then upright and further away for a 5 iron was the dopiest thing I could imagine. I didn’t buy the distance gapping reason for this. The 1/2” increments between clubs is negligible…… but a 3” gap between your longest and shortest club is significant in how you swing each.
So the engineer in me set out seeking out someone that didn’t do this and made same length clubs. After finding the site and reading all the great material David Lake has I was sold that his approach was the right approach.
Upon ordering my set….. I set my one year goal of breaking 90. Over the last year figuring out how to golf has been my regular hobby. No lessons, fittings, no voodoo. Just finding some tips and direction here and there and figuring out what works. All of David’s instructional material on the site are amongst the most useful I’ve found.
I have shot 89 twice in my last three rounds. I have now set my next year goal to average below 90 consistently.
Learning golf isn’t rocket science. But, it certainly would have been easier in my 20’s than at 50.
I’m convinced that 1 Iron’s approach to single length is the right approach in simplifying acquiring the skill of hitting golf balls, especially for a new player. But I think it would also take much needless complication out of it for experienced players.
Great product and great approach. It boggle my mind what the conventional approach is. It defies common sense and intuitive logic.

It would seem the Pro-line with the 2* stronger lofts (25* 5 iron) would have the least gap with the 22* 7 wood, as compared to the 1iron and Blackstone options (27* 5 iron).

Received my irons and wedges and have several observations: 1. Black stone irons are beautiful with slim Topline ; several compliments; they do not look like “game improvement irons;” 2. Mr. Lakes’ transition tips work well; I tied my best ever 9-hole score (38 on 3400 yd par 36) first time out after 3 range visits; 3. The long irons were my problem but I saw immediate loft and distance improvements; 4. I’m a good short game player and the wedges fly super high and are a bit curvy... but consistent; this is my only challenge area with new clubs. So...bottom line: I love them!! I've been playing golf (very poorly) for about 25 years. The past 5 years I've only been playing a handful of rounds a year. I'm now 37 and want to make playing-and playing better-a priority. As such, I ditched the 20 year old Molitors and bought a single length set from Diamond Tours. I got the 5-PW, 3W, 5W and a driver. I used the Wrist to Floor measures from your site after checking to see that the specs were similar: lie, wt, offset all were very similar. All in, I was around $400. I hope to move up to one of your sets in a few years but couldn't justify the price at this time.
I've had great success with my new irons gaining consistency and distance almost immediately. It is apparent, however, that I need a higher loft wedge. I'm looking to pick up a Blackstone or Pro Line as I imagine I'll "complete the set" down the road. My PW has a loft of 44. for a high handicapper like me, what loft Blackstone or Pro Line would you recommend to compliment my starter set? MY initial thought is a 55 Blackstone.

I just ordered a complete set of Blackstone 1Irons and can't wait for them to arrive so I can go to the range and get started! I have also been reading everything I can on your website, including all of the positive comments about the 1Iron Driver & Fairway woods. So I am looking at these and thinking about orders a complete set of the woods too. My question is are the Driver and 3,5, & 7 fairway woods available in the Blacksteel shafts that the Blackstone irons come with? To me it just seems logical to have my shafts all the same and with the benifit of the PVD blacksteel anti-glare, I think this would be a good idea to have in the woods too. Thank you!

I've played six rounds with my One Iron driver. In those rounds, I'm averaging 8 fairways with my driver. In my previous ten rounds, I averaged 5.5 fairways hit. The One Iron replaced a Ping G410 with a custom shaft. I'm probably 10% shorter with the One Iron driver, probably due the 12% loft vs the 10% with the Ping, but the accuracy more than makes up the difference in distance.
I'm finding that my One Iron fairway woods are more consistent. Again, I'm giving up a bit of distance, this time I think due to the steel shafts. But my confidence is way up.
The biggest issue with the irons is getting used to the distance in the wedges. With the longer shafts, I'm hitting them farther, and my feel around the green is still evolving.
What I'm telling my friends is that if you don't play several times a week, or if you are just taking up the game, go with single length clubs. It is just a lot easier to manage.
I have a very bad back (level 2 spondylolisthesis) and I switched to single length to see if that would be easier on my spine. I believe this to be true. I played this morning and am ready to go again tomorrow. For the last 45 years, that hasn't been the case. I'm happy that I made the change and my group is asking me where they can find One Irons because they see the change in my game.

I was intrigued by the idea of single length irons ever since I saw Bryson play with them in the college. I had both of my hips replaced in 2018-19 and felt now it was time to make the switch. I will never go back. This is the easiest way to golf and create consistency in your game. ONE swing, ONE ball position, identical clubs from 59* wedge through 19* 3 iron. It has worked so well for me, my 25 yr old son has also switched to 1 Irons with similar success and consistency. These are high quality clubs through and through. I golf in a league with a local Titleist Rep and he was very impressed with the quality. He's had back issues and said he might be making the switch to save his back. If you have questions, the Lake's are always there to personally answer you questions. Happy Golfing my Friends!

I finally pulled the trigger and bought a set of 1Irons. I can only say, “Wow”. I used to dread my driver about 80% of the time, flaring right or snap hooking left. My drives have never been straighter... except when the beer flows heavy (Damn you Yeungling! Why are you so tasty?!) My irons? Where do I place the ball, how is my stance, do I hit down/up/through it? Now, I just plop that ball in the center of my stance and let it rip. I look forward to the entire round. For anyone who is still on the fence... buy a set and see for yourself. The only thing you’ll regret is that you didn’t buy them years ago.

I just received my Pro Lines this afternoon. I went to the range tonight and I was amazed. I am 62 years old and have played Pings and recently tried our Cobra one length. I found the Cobras to be too light and without good feel.
My Pro Lines are awesome. I hit 20 balls with a 7 iron and was hitting it pure by the end of that session. After a rest, I worked through the rest of the set, 4-GW.
Wow. I had great ball flight and I was able to take a very comfortable stance. I am 6’3 and have always had trouble with consistency through the irons in a variable length set. I mentioned that I played Pings too. Up until 3 months ago before trying single length Cobras, Ping was my iron choice mostly because of the fitting process.
I am hooked on the feel of the Pro Line and cannot wait to have a couple more range sessions before hitting the course later this week. I have Ordered the sand and lob wedge tonight to complete my set.
Thank you for bringing simplicity and most importantly, fun and consistency to my game. I haven’t had this much fun practicing in many years. Truly amazing performance right out of the box.

My history: I am 66 years old today, and have been playing golf for approximately 14 years. I play Callaway Razer XF irons #6 through Lob wedge, #3 and #5 Callaway Razer XF Hybrids, and Callaway XR Driver. All clubs are off the shelf. I like the Callaway Super soft golf ball. My swing speed has been clocked at 90 mph. Handicap is 15.
I have been struggling for years with iron consistency and driver accuracy. I never know where to place the ball when hitting the irons. I started the search for new irons about 6 months ago, discovered the One Iron Golf Site and read all the information available, including reviews not associated with their site. Since I already have the upright swing posture require, I decided to take a chance and invest in an American Small Business.
I ordered the Blackstone Irons 31* through 59*, which is eight irons, and the driver. This is my review of the clubs to date;
• Packaging: They were packed extremely well to avoid damage during shipping.
• Head Covers: They arrived late in the evening and I immediately opened the box. Let's just say I was deflated when I saw the head covers. Did not expect to see what I would call inexpensive head covers on $1200.00 worth of clubs. The driver has a minimal neoprene cover which barely covers the head. The irons have small covers with windows to view the loft angles, which do not line up all that well. I discarded them and put my heavy duty neoprene covers on them. I also used my old driver cover for my new driver. Not a deal breaker for me.
• Irons: The next day I started with the 43* (9) as recommended, hitting it into my net while dodging the rain, running back and forth into the garage. I hit all eight irons about ten times each, with the ball in the center of my stance. They felt very comfortable. I like that they are same length, with the ball in the same place, with the same swing.
• Driver: I also hit the driver, which is shorter than my old driver. I placed masking tape on the club face to see where the ball was hitting the face, and surprise it was dead center.
• Grips: On my old clubs I have Winn Dry Tac midsize grips. I really like the oversize grips on the clubs, very comfortable.
• At the range: The next two days I went to the range hitting seventy balls each time over the course of an hour and a half, using the masking tape on the club faces as guide to adjust my distance away from the ball. I hit the irons extremely well, hitting them very high. The ball went somewhat shorter than I was used to, which could be attributed to range balls, head wind, and getting used to the clubs. I felt that my swing adjusted to the irons almost immediately. The driver was amazing. I placed the ball approximately two inches left of center on a two inch tee, and was hitting down the middle with each swing.
• On the course using a Titlest Tour Soft golf ball: My first drive was a slice to the right out of play. I thought here we go, might as well hit the old driver and save $300. I think I was too far from the ball. Made that adjustment and hit the remaining six drives down the middle just as long as my old driver. Like I said: amazing. Hit the first iron onto the green right side using the 43*, pin was on the left. Remaining irons shots were all good; I was impressed with the consistency, height, and distance I could get with each swing. Only played nine holes because of vicious lightning.
The second round was eighteen holes. I shot 85 with two triple bogies, not the fault of the clubs. The first one I chose the wrong club, hit over the green out of play. The second for some reason after sixteen holes I pulled the driver dead left. Blamed it on me running out of gas. The driver and irons were very consistent. My playing partner who keeps the score would ask, what did you get on this hole another routine par?
I did flub a sand shot out of a very wet bunker, which confused me because I am normally a good bunker player. Came home and read a forum entry about sand wedge play. Found I was using my old bunker swing style which does not work with the new sand wedge.
Conclusion: The custom length of the clubs, the uniform specifications, and the upright swing posture appear to fit my swing style very well. The clubs are well made of quality materials. I believe my consistency began to improve immediately and will continue to improve further over time. I just purchased Blackstone irons and I love them. I'm a 2 handicap and have decided to emulate Bryson and his SPS to create a new challenge at the age of 52. My swing speed is 110 to 112 mph - I had the iron shafts tipped at 3 inches from you guys. Should I leave the fairway shafts alone or do you recommend any tipping on those?

Finished second round with these clubs. Lofted irons are a little longer (club length AND distance) and long irons are a little shorter (club length AND distance). Getting a feel still for distances and gaps between clubs however, in two rounds, not a single fat or shank shot. Improved 3 strokes. I’m a 12 handicap so 3 strokes are getting hard to find! Best round of the year so far only my second round with these clubs. I’m a skeptic by nature, but this is the real deal. Like the oversized grips. My set is 4 iron-gap wedge. 8 clubs. Cost $899 from 1 iron golf

Just received my full set of Pro Line irons with 3 & 5 woods. Love the look and feel of every club. Played them right out of the box and shot 82–one of my best rounds ever! The only club I’m struggling with is the sand wedge. (My Callaway MAC Daddy was very easy to use) I’m really having trouble moving the ball out of the trap in fluffy sand with the One Iron. Any suggestions?

Hello, I’ve been reading through your posts and noticed that it seems you have not updated the design of your clubs for quite some time or brought out a new line (just varying looks) in the golf industry it seems to be that technology gets better every few years and the major brands reflect that by bringing out improved lines, for example the difference between cobra’s f7 OL and F9 OL seems quite noticeable in relation to gaping issues.
I was wondering if there was a particular reason why you haven’t done this also? Or is it simply a case of there not being a need to fix what is not broken??

My new set of One Iron clubs arrived on May 22nd. I was happy with them from my first game. Today, I played my third game with them and I have to say I have never hit my irons with more consistency and confidence. I am making shots to the green that I would never even attempt with my old clubs. As my body gets use to repeating the same swing, my contact just keeps improving. Even my golfing buddies are impressed.
I have the One Iron driver and fairway woods on my shopping list for later.

I switched from the regular 1irons to the prolines this week. I played nine holes (my first round of the year due to the corona virus thing), I shot a 39, and I was really impressed. They feel lighter and I found each iron to be a little longer than my previous set (which I don't consider to be that important). The biggest difference, in my opinion, is the stability and feel. They seem to minimize the severity of my misses, and they feel good almost like a forged iron. You can tell when you hit it on the screws. I love the grips too. Thanks for making another set of great irons.

Im a long time owner of 1irons, I think Im on my second or 3rd set since 2003. I am thinking about getting either the prolines or the blackstones. My question is regarding the pvd finish on the blackstones. How does it hold up? Ive owned pvd finished clubs in the past, and they honestly looked pretty bad after 1 season. The finish on the sole area seems to wear away where it contacts the ground. Also, are the black shafts painted or pvd, or is the steel tinted black? Painted shafts will not look very good after a season rattling around in the bag. Just curious if anyone has any input.

I JUST PURCHASED THE BLACKSTONE IRONS. ONLY PLAYED A COUPLE OF ROUNDS WITH THEM BUT CAN'T BELIEVE HOW EASY THE TRANSITION IS BETWEEN IRONS. IT'S LIKE HITTING THE SAME IRON ON EVERY SHOT. I got to play three rounds in Phoenix ten days ago first ever with the Single Length Irons. We played from 6,400 – 6,500 each day (i.e. two 61 year old golfers), on public courses, in a certain price range as requested by my playing partner, who is playing with an incurable cancer condition. My first round was 83, with four three putts, on a very flat municipal course, and some rusty chipping, on a simple Ken McDonald Course. My second round was a routine 81, on a more difficult Papago Course (new home of Arizona State University). My final round was a 78 on a course similar to Papago, Palm Valley in Goodyear, where I one putted the first seven holes from various distances. Not bad for not having played since last October in Wisconsin. My friend is a retired Lt Colonel (Army). We got to play with another African American retired Lt Colonel (Air Force), and his 16 year old daughter (Pepperdine Recruit) who crushed her drives and basically got around in a few over par, on Palm Valley. Remember the names Tim Morris and Abby Morris. She is the real deal. Got a group picture with her so we can say we golfed with a young “Serena or Venus Williams” one day …
Granted, it was 83, sunny, with 5 mph winds each day, which is basically ideal. I also found it so helpful to use the Lamkin Grip Cleaning Wipes every nine holes on the clubs to keep them super tacky and grippy. Those 1/8 “ oversize grips are so easy to handle. So much more stable than a standard grip on store bought clubs.
Results:
Driver - Straight. Then straight again. Then straight, etc, etc, etc. My distance going forward will be determined by how hard I work out to increase my strength and flexibility.
Low Profile Fairway Woods - I could thread a needle with these clubs, and they come off like bullets. Never once strayed with them.
Blackstone Irons - I hit a lot of greens I normally miss, and by the third round I steadily hit them in a well concentrated radius. Greening par threes was pretty much routine. This has always been my biggest problem on the course.
Blackstone Wedges - I humbly disagree with your assessment not to choke down on them. Choking down an inch or so was a great improvement, and did not detract at all from the performance.
Blackstone Sand Wedge - No problem getting out. But again, I choked down on the sand wedge.
The uniformity overall, length, grip size, shaft flex, weight, the lie angles, all just puts your mind at ease. It’s basically like hitting the same shot every time. Feels the same every time over the ball, all centered in the stance, hands ahead of the ball. After playing hybrid woods for 15 years, going back to irons is an adjustment mentally. But by my 54th hole, I really felt I had it put together. Also, the white lines on the face of the Blackstone irons make is so easy to line up the blade over the ball.
Wish I had done this 20 years ago.

I bought one .I found that when you marked the ball the first time , take the ball and turn it 90 deg. to first mark the 2nd mark never follows the first mark. I use tour quality balls I have found the salt water method much superior. any thoughts on this?

The Blackstone Irons have a nice thin topline, the nice 1 Iron high toe, the feel is very nice, and of course you get that beautiful consistency and confidence which comes from single length clubs. But what I find most satisfying about them is the loft angles on the soles instead of numbers; Numbers - which have become meaningless.
I've grown very tired of unreasonably strong lofts in golf clubs. Lower center of gravity necessitates stronger lofts? - perhaps . . . That's what the manufacturer's reps say. But I doubt it.
I consider a 3 iron 23 degrees. If you can hit a 17 degree iron - which is a 1 or 2 iron - wonderful. If you can't, and need more distance, you use a fairway wood or a hybrid. Hybrids are really just short fairway woods - necessary because by the modern numbering system, there no longer is a hittable 1, 2, 3, 4, or sometimes even 5 iron anymore. An approach wedge is a pitching wedge. Argue all you want, I tell you it is so (to quote Sherlock Holmes).
The Ping Eye 2 3-iron was 21 degrees . . . Even that was probably too much.
Enough is enough. If the 37-39 degree 7 iron doesn't go as far as the 28 degree on demo day, well too bad. The idea with irons is accuracy, not distance. The goal is to score on a golf course, not hit a 7 iron the farthest on demo day.
(The topic of yardage gaps I'll leave for another post. In these strong lofted mid-iron sets of clubs, you have no consistent yardage at the extremes. Sometimes the difference between a 5 and 4 iron is 2 degrees . . .)
Have you seen the specs on the Callaway Rogue X Irons? The 4 iron is 18.5 degrees; the 5 iron is 21. The pitching wedge is 41 degrees - that's an 8 iron. You need 2 wedges with a set of these irons, a "utility" and an "approach." Incredible that they have the gall to market this. The 6 iron is really a 3 iron; think about that . . . (If Callaway put loft angles on the Rogue X soles, they'd look delusional . . . or like a pack of robbers, eh?)
This is one reason the Blackstone Irons remain my favorites. A 3 iron is a 3 iron again, and a pitching wedge is a pitching wedge. My head is now clear. Put loft angles on the ProLines and I'll buy another set of those too . . .

Force equals mass times acceleration. F=MA
Why can't people hit 3 or 4 irons? Because, first of all the shaft is too long, it's harder to hit. Second, they swing tentatively because most folks have no confidence in that club (if your 7 iron fits you for example). Third, the head is lighter. (The loft angle is stronger too - requires a solid strike. Let's leave that for now.)
If the head's lighter, the mass changes. The longer shaft means the acceleration changes because you swing tentatively or have trouble making good contact, or both. So changing those 2 factors yields less force.
Now, on an Iron Byron, conventional golf clubs work fine; a machine always hits the sweet spot and doesn't swing tentatively. A machine also doesn't think. You don't need single length irons with an Iron Byron.
Single length clubs are all the same weight, so the mass stays the same. The shafts are equal length, you only make one swing; with more confidence you make good contact. So the acceleration remains constant. - you get better distance. But - but - you need the clubs fitted to you. Otherwise you throw the acceleration factor off. (An Iron Byron doesn't need custom fitted clubs.)
We're humans, and that is a factor. A properly tuned piano has sharper tones in the high octaves, and slightly flatter tones in the low octaves. Why? Because it sounds better. Why? Because we're humans and that's how we hear music. A computer will never calculate that answer because computers don't hear music. Golf is the same. If you're confident, you'll strike the ball solidly. That's a human ingredient, like the piano sound.
With 9 different iron lengths, lie angles, and clubhead weights, "ya ain't gonna have no confidence." And when you hit the ball poorly, you'll yell out obscenities. That sounds as bad as the out of tune piano.

The Truth looms very powerfully. Question what agenda-driven experts preach - always.
Why do those spent CBS TV golf announcers reference Bryson Dechambeau as though he were a borderline nut? - golf's mad scientist. And especially his equipment - they never mention it, or the inescapable logic behind it. They'd have you dismiss single length equipment and think of it as a fad, a hoax even. Because only a nut would use it. But that isn't the reason.
Here's the reason: Titleist, Taylormade, and Callaway spend many millions of dollars advertising on these TV broadcasts. None of those manufacturers makes single length equipment. (Cobra spends much less, and usually they only showcase their drivers.) Those CBS clowns lose coveted advertising money if they even whisper about single length irons on the air.
(The bad golf magazines (there are no good ones) aren't critical. Cobra spends a decent buck there. But it's still a one horse race. Ever see a critical review in a golf magazine article?)
The large equipment companies concern themselves with what? Making you a better golfer? - - - Or making a buck? There's nothing wrong with profits. Profits are good. But when profits come at the expense of what's promised, "they ain't good." Then you're being played in a con game.
Without selling mountains of new equipment every year, golf manufacturers won't stay in business. All these companies sell variable length sets because they're easy to mass produce and mass market. Somewhere in those 18 swing planes (one back and one down) there's something that will work for the golf consumer - 1 or 2 clubs. Good for sales, bad for individual golfers. These cash behemoths benefit from endless talk about (1) how difficult golf is, (2) the new design innovations that make it easier, and (3) how the pros play the same clubs you can buy. All that blather is wrong. Most lemmings never question it (or anything).
Not much of a super athlete, most of my life I couldn't consistently strike a golf ball. With single length equipment I can, and I'm in my 60s. Am I a nut too, like DeChambeau? Am I hallucinating? Bobby Jones did quite well with single length hickory shafted golf clubs. Was he a borderline nut like DeChambeau?
I remember being told the Japanese could make transistor radios but not TVs. Then that they could make TVs but not cars. When they made good cars we were told they couldn't make heavy equipment.

Single length irons are really pretty easy to get used to. Easier than eating in the British style with the fork in your left hand. Physically there isn't any difficulty - if you can swing a 7 iron you can use these easily. A beginning golfer immediately benefits. Teaching a more experienced golfer takes longer - he can't believe it will work.
(If you really want to know how stupid the variable length iron idea is, try using a variable length set after playing single length clubs for a little while. It will seem like absolute lunacy. Just pick up a 39" 3 iron and waggle it.}
Decades of conditioning have hypnotized us. Variable length iron sets exist so that manufacturers can sell thousands of sets off the rack. That's the reason. Somewhere in that set there are a few clubs that will fit you, whether you're 5'2" or 6'3". For the average sized person it's somewhere around a 7 iron. That's why we always hear "practice with your 7 iron." Harvey Penick said that . . . Most lesser "instructors" say that as well. Custom fitting variable length clubs? Ridiculous. It's impossible.
Most excellent golfers aren't engineers or physicists. They're athletes. The very best athletes may be so supremely coordinated that they can hit a 39-1/2" iron well, then pick up a 35" club and hit that well. I can't do that and I doubt you can either. A great athlete won't question the physics of golf equipment any more than the physics of a butterknife. But a clubmaker or an engineer or a physicist - if they play golf - will question it.
Eastman Kodak manufactured a product called "D-76" for years and made a fortune. D-76 was a black and white film developer. And it was terrible. It compressed high values into chalk. But unless you were an expert and tested different developers and printed the results, you'd never know. Kodak could always doubletalk their way around it. It's the same with golf. Struggling players swallow the "greater length = distance" doubletalk. Refusing to question the cash-rich golf companies, they lament, "Oh well, golf's just a complicated game . . . " Nonsense.
The major manufacturers lie to us. They're interested in the almighty buck, not your ball striking ability. Their equipment isn't necessarily bad, but it's limited. It's good mass-marketed product, designed to sell in quantity. But it's not designed to help you make consistent strikes with all your irons. Their strategy allows selling as much equipment as possible every year. And about 30% of their costs go towards marketing: TV and magazine ads, in store promo materials - and to Dustin Johnson's or Michelson's or Fowler's endorsement paycheck.
One last thing - even a supremely gifted athlete will score lower and strike the ball more consistently with single length irons. Why they might not use them is for the same reason other golfers hesitate: they don't want to admit they've been doing things terribly wrong - for years.

I just purchased a used Pro-Line set (3-LW : sorry didn't buy new but if this works and one of my buddies buys these off me I'm buying a brand new set!) and bought the Driver new from One Iron Golf website. Got the irons first and my first impressions are that they are well made. I've been playing Adams CMB irons with KBS shafts (I would say stiff but after reading Dave's info about shafts, that would be incorrect :) and I hit all my irons okay. I have occasional mishits but I like the idea of one length. I don't have an official handicap but play to about 18 right now (20 years ago was 11 hcp).
I've been swinging the clubs inside my house and then swinging my conventional equivalent. I like the feel of the One Iron clubs and feel just as good as the CMBs. I'm playing tomorrow (driver arrives today) and don't plan on having too much of a transition because I already hit my 6 and 7 iron very solid.
I have Game Golf Live and will use it to track my performance compared to my old clubs. This will be fun!
I drive the ball good off the tee with my current Adams Redline driver at 10.5 loft. I average about 230 - 240 off the tee with the occasional 280 to 300 (I'm 50 yrs old). These are real distances because Game Golf won't let me lie! It will be interesting to have the 12 degree driver set up close to middle of stance with a standard "7 iron swing" to see how it goes. I'm going to trust David Lake and what he's done for decades and just swing easy.
I'll report back on how it goes.
P.S. I find it encouraging that the maker of the clubs actively answers/responds on the forum here. Not sure Tom Wishon would be so quick to respond to everyone that asks a question. Good on you Mr. Lake!

Can you please elaborate on the following statement?
"The trigger finger of your right hand (right-handed golfer) should exert little to no pressure on the grip at all."
Why is this case and why does one hit more solid shots with the trigger finger disengaged?

While setting with 1 Irons should the white lines of the club be parallel to the ground given a flat lie?
If you address the ball by lining up your chosen club while grounding it parallel to the ground would ensure an upright swing posture, correct?

It has been 2 years since I received my clubs from you, and I couldn't be happier.
I can not believe how consistent I am now with my yardages on approach shots. Tee shots and irons are straight, right where I aim. Fairway wood shots have a slight fade to the right about 20 yds. but it is consistent.
I have gone from shooting in the 100's to the high 70's to low 80's. My putting is now my biggest challenge.
I just can't say enough about just how consistent these clubs allow me to play now. I never envisioned being able to get on the greens to allow birdies on every hole.
Today was the first time I ever shot under par for 18.
When will you develop and market a putter? That will make my game complete.

Hello David. I live in Waterford, MI and approximately 10 years ago my wife and I drove down to a golf shop in Perrysburg, OH (closest 1irongolf dealer to me) and I bought a set of 1irons 3=lw, driver, 3 wood and 5 wood. It was my luck that the demo set I bought from the adore were the length I needed based on your fitting criteria back then. I had immediate success with them but after a while somehow lost that success. So over the years I've been playing conventional length irons that I always went and got fitted for. Through those years my game has improved year over year and at the age of 48 managed to play my way to become a 5.8 handicap. So getting to the point of my story I pulled the 1irons out of the closet and "customized" them to "my swing". I pulled the steel shafts out of them and put Graffaloy Pro Launch blue stiff shafts. I built them myself. I built the 4 iron through 9 iron to a finished playing length of 37" (1 inch longer than the original steel shaft). PW is 36.5" and GW and SW to 36". You'll be proud to know that I tested every shaft to make sure the cpm's of every shaft was within +/- 3 cpms of each other and also spined every shaft. Using my Mitchell loft and lie machine bent them 2° flat and 2° strong. My game has never been better. Although this goes against your "teachings" I wanted to get your thoughts on the changes. I play a different brand driver but play it at 43.75" long and play yet a different brand 3 wood and 5 wood which I play at 42" and 41" respectively. I guess the questions that I have is the following :
1. With the strengthening of the lofts of the irons they now play similar to the pro-line lofts. The 4 iron through PW each weigh 405 grams (+/- 3 grams). I use 1 layer of tape and a 51 gram grip. They swing weight to a D0. What is the total weight of a 37" pro-line club? What is the swing weight of that same club? The website mentions that the pro-line set uses a state of the art precision casting, grinding, and polishing. How does that differ from the casting, grinding, and polishing of the standard 1irons?
2. I couldn't use the 1iron 3 wood and 5 wood because the heads were far too big AND the faces were far too closed at address.
Do the new low profile fairway woods sit square or even slightly open by chance?
Sorry for the novel but I felt that every detail was important. I'm considering getting a set of the pro-line irons and possibly the fairway woods based on how they sit at address. I CAN NOT look down at a closed club face.

The Lamkin grips that come with 1 iron set are a real step up for comfort. However, Jumbomax has grips even bigger.
Growing up I've played multiple sports: Ice hockey, baseball, squash, and of course golf. Hockey sticks, baseball bats, and squash rackets all have large comfortable grips. But, golf is the only one that has a relatively skinny grip. Even the oversize Lamkin's are relatively small...if you think about it.
Thoughts on going Jumbomax?

I was skeptical of replacing my Calloway irons but I read every article on this site and thought the single length concept was strong. I always felt just a little relief when I would get in 165-180 yard range so I could hit my 7 iron which I always seem to pure when I hit it. I decided after 20 years of playing golf, and still never being able to break 80, to burn the ships and purchase a complete set of Blackstone's along with both
fairway woods and driver. The first time out my golf buddies were wondering what the hell was going on because almost all of my shots were money. I had not yet told them I had something new in my bag so they had no idea what was causing my consistent ball striking. I was hesitant to let anybody know I had purchased a new set of single length irons for fear of ridicule of just another attempt to find a "quick fix" fo my golf game. Even the 12 degree driver made an incredible difference in my consistency and length off the tee. I was concerned after hitting a longer and lower lofted 10.5 degree driver that I would sacfrifice distance but that was not the case.
Having golf clubs that fit you properly and only having to worry about one set up and swing sure simplified my golf game. Made a believer out of me.
They do require some trips to the range to train your mind that hitting a 3 iron with a 7 iron length shaft requires exact the same set up and swing. Same as the wedges, your body so bad wants to choke down on the wedges and close in shots so range hitting to include bunker practice takes a few trips but it is funny how fast your body adjusts to the one set up, one swing concept. Like advertised every single swing makes you feel even more confident in your golf game.
