Subject: The Grade 4's ROCK

I can't begin to tell everyone just how proud I was of the Grade 4 band in Flagstaff. With one small exception, you played like a top end Grade 4 band, producing good sound and good music. The improvement from Pomona to last Saturday was stunning. You guys and gals not only sounded like a really, really good Grade 4 band, you acted like one. You looked sharp and confident, not like you were going out to take a whipping from somebody or like you were trying figure out how to get off the freeway because everyone else was driving too fast. And the comments from Nigel, Bruce Hitchings and Kevin after they heard you, echoed everything I've said here. Niall Matheson and Stewart Shedden were also telling everyone how impressed they were with the band. Nigel and Bruce both told me that if you play like that (except for the note errors in Flett From Flotta) you have a good chance to make the finals at the Worlds. You guys and gals ROCK!!!

As to the note errors in Flett. There is no excuse for that. It was the only blemish on a really strong performance. This has to stop. If you are making errors like that by the time we get to Scotland, Mike has full authority to cut you, and I expect him to do so for the good of the band. You have to get these tunes down solid, period. Noticeable note errors WILL knock you out of the finals at the Worlds.

I also was very, very proud of Duncan. In his first contest he played really well and took a medal in the Grade 4 Slow Air contest. Great job Duncan.

Cya at practice.

Chris
