Pros = reduced overhead costs for shared services; as long as Newmarket would be looking after development, the new project roads would be wide enough for cars to park along them and for fire engines to get through safely (shame on Aurora Council for allowing such narrow roads in all the new high density developments); kids would have large enough spaces to play in (not the 20'x20' patches in new developments that Aurora currently calls parks); plazas would be within 15 minute walking distance - I'd better stop here.....

Cons = local job losses; increased high density house building in Aurora

I'm against the splurge of "build-it-quick" type of building that's endemic now, as infrastructure is not put in place prior to building, and in the majority of cases, after building.
Infrastructure is missing - sensible road widths; local variety stores, small local schools; parks for the children.
With regard to parks for the children, I have noticed that when council have been asked to designate areas for children's play they have stated that we live in a country area, where there is lots of play space. They are short-term thinkers (they're policitians after all) because in 5 years most of that immediate land surrounding our town of Aurora is going to be new housing estates. Just take a look at the current plans going through for St Johns/Leslie, St Johns/Bathurst, St Johns/Bayview. These are HUGE estates and, as farmers and smallholders sell their lands to builders as prices increase [because Torontonians move out of the city and into our areas - I know, coz I was one of those!] more and more landowners will sell to builders. Council are unable to say "No" because they want the taxes that come from such high density housing.....
