One masked tree-sitter was snapping off branches of an oak while trying to negotiate through the foliage, apparently trying to hop the fence.

"You see this stuff in movies and TV, but until you see it yourself you'd never believe it," said Marcus Hilliard of Knoxville, Tenn., a University of Tennessee equipment manager who watched the proceedings, mouth agape, with a group of friends.

"It's totally mind-blowing," he said. "This wouldn't happen in Tennessee, no ma'am."

Allen Sitzler, also of Knoxville, said Tennessee fans would be protesting to build a sports facility, not block one.
