actually, you have a 50% chance of not having a moon in your night sky.... The reason it's receding from us is something we call tidal drag, which is why the moon rotates on it's axis in such a way as to keep the far side hidden from us....


As time goes on, the moon is slowly but surely affecting us in the same manner, with the ultimate result that the moon and Earth will be locked in a mutual orbit with one face of the earth constantly facing the moon.

Tides will STILL occur, however, since the sun ALSO has an effect on tidal heights (that's why there are variations over the course of the month....) while the tide heights might not be as extreme as they are now, they will still occur. Crabs and turtles will continue to reproduce... assuming that they haven't been killed off by man in the meantime.
