Subject: The Chair

You fought well
and I once admired
your accomplishments
for the weight
you bore was
several times your own,
but there had to be
a victory, a winner,
a lesser force giving away
to the stronger.
And I bent your legs,
until they buckled
beneath you
Your very being
came crashing down,
no longer able
to stand upright
or defend your space
As I sat atop your dead body
in amazement of your weakness,
I cursed,
I cursed the bruises.
With profanity, I screamed
"You piece of shit!"
For in a moment,
you broke
without cause or warning,
or fan-fair.
Now, no one will applaud your resilience
or remember your place,
or how you came crashing
to the floor
with me sitting
in your tired lap
Nor will living being
care that I tossed you
onto a garbage heap,
broken and useless.
Defeated
