It was the Spring of 1889 in London
Mary Carls was getting off the train. When her white hat with pink ribbon blew off.
A man picked up her hat and handed it to her.
"Just getting into to London?"
"Why yes."
"Excuse me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Leonard Hall. And your name?"
"I'm Mary Carls."
"In London for business or pleasure, Mary?"
"A little of both. My cousin is a hat maker in London."
"Nice meeting you Mary Carls."
"Nice meeting you Leonard Halls."
Later that night Mary went to Oscar Wilde's play, An Ideal Husband, with her cousin Ruphert. As the play was getting out, Leonard Halls was out walking across the street from the theatre.
L. Halls knew that was her with her white hat with pink ribbon. He thought she might recognize him. He also knew it would have been awful to say anything with her beau.
When L. Halls finally got home he realized that it could have been her cousin. He had to go back to the train station that next day.
That next day at the train station. Shufling to and fro he pondered the steps of the previous day. Then he saw her, Mary, in a pink and white dress. He assumed she was about to board the train.
He walked up to her; and, she walked towards him. She then started to say, "I thought you'd be here."
"I saw you coming out of the theater last night. When getting home I finally surmised it was your cousin."
"Yes, Ruphert."
