Dear ARVO Biochemisrty /Molecular Biology Member,

With less than a month remaining until we gather at the Annual Meeting,
I wanted to take a quick moment to update you on several items.

ARVO has entered into the process of developing its next five-year long
range plan. Thanks to those of you that completed the member survey
conducted in January. Over 1200 replies were received, and this input
was used by the Board of Trustees and the Long Range Planning Committee
to draft a plan to guide ARVO through 2008. A copy of the strategic
goals and objectives of this plan will be published in the Meeting
Update and is available on the ARVO website,
http://www.arvo.org/AboutArvo/StrategicPlan.asp. I encourage you to
review these goals and provide your thoughts and comments regarding
ways to strengthen our Organization and our Section, and to facilitate
our scientific work. One way to do this is to attend the ARVO General
Business Meeting and Open Forum that will take place at 12:35 PM on
Wednesday, May 7 in Room 305 of the Convention Center. If you cannot
attend this meeting, there will be other formal opportunities to
comment in the coming months, or you may direct general comments at any
time to arvo@arvo.org.

Thanks to all of you who submitted abstracts this year. Our Section
has a very strong program addressing many interesting topics. On
behalf of the Section, thanks to our Program Committee members and
especially thanks to W.Clay Smith who served as our Program Chair this
year. At the Section Business meeting, scheduled for May 6th, in
room 114 of the convention center at 12:35 pm, we will elect our new
Program Committee member. I would encourage anyone willing to serve in
this capacity to consider putting his or her name into nomination.
