Awake am I as the night goes by
No time for me to close my eyes
Though tired I am the body aches
No sleep will come I stay awake

Try as I might I cannot slumber
Sheep I count in massive numbers
Elusive dreams they still elude me
As sleep won't come to let me see

I get my pen and paper out
And jot down words I've thought about
The lines start coming a poem I reap
Yet after five I still can't sleep

Sunlight breaks, and bells do ring
A million birds all over sing
Their voices carry for miles around
And still from me no snoring sound

The sun is high the sky is blue
Go for a walk is what I'll do
So to the park I aim to wander
I'll fall asleep on grass oer yonder
