Yes, most if not all. When a large sum of money
is involved, the rights to it could be confusing.
I am very much in favor of the person making the
call to the police receiving a substantial portion
or all of the posted reward amount. Firstly, making
good on promises is important. Secondly, I believe
most every of us is delighted that this person had
the wherewithall and foresight to recognize the
situation and follow through to report it. This
person should be on Saturday Night Live, and all
over the media, and celebrated. This person got
his bat on the ball and hit it out of the park,
bases loaded, if you ask me.

About defense lawyers for the snipers.

Each of the two are going to need some of the
best legal minds our system has been able to
produce. Perhaps not the most cunning, as to
aquit these dopes, but someone well grounded in
the legal ethic that suspects are innocent until
found guilty by a jury, someone who will plead for
their lives, as debate still exists about the death
penalty, and someone who has the courage to stand
up and represent quite misguided, deranged, and
infamous persons. Such a defense would necessarily
have to be men of integrity and honor; men who
stand for jurisprudence rather than mob rule.

This seems unimportant and wasteful to the majority
of us. Until it is one of us who are pulled over.
Because we happen to have a 3-inch hole in our
trunk. Because our backseat happens to fold over.
Because we happen to be carrying a similar weapon
to a gun show. Because we happen to be sympathetic
to the Muslim religon. And because we just happen
to fall between the cracks and are indeed innocent.
When something like that happens to us, we want
the best legal defense we can get.

And, if we happen to have actually committed a
crime, we still want a plea for mercy and a chance
to live out our lives and atone for our wrongness.

Indeed, these guys will be a challenge to our
system of doing things. Any lawyers working to
represent either of these two will have to be
men willing to put the law ahead of their own
emotions, with the exact measure of all things
taken into consideration. A tall order.

[> [> Keep on Trying -- jay, 05:52:38 10/29/02 Tue

Here is an Old Testament scripture I had to use
today. Sometimes it feels as though things in
life are too much to bear. Of course, they aren't.
In my case, a situation did cause me to open the
Word today, and here is what I found.

Hosea 6:1-3.
Come, let us return to the Lord. He has hurt us
but He will heal us. He has cut us but He will
cover the sore. After two days He will give us
new life. He will raise us up on the third day,
that we may live before Him. So keep on trying to
know the Lord. His coming to us is as sure as the
rising of the sun. He will come to us like the
rain, like the spring rain giving water to the
earth.

I guess I didn't make out so badly today, after all.

We can pray for one another, also, as I now pray
for each of us in this forum, that we realize in
our hearts with assurance that the good work in us,
even though if ever interrupted, will surely be
finished. Amen.
