  The MHoB Feis, 2008, will be held this year at the Benedictine University, in Lisle, IL on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday May 4th, 2008.

  My name is Christian Bruhn. I am completing graduate studies in exercise science at Central Washington University. I am working under the direction of Dr. Vince Nethery, Professor in CWU's Department of Health, Human Performance and Nutrition. My thesis work is focused on designing a workout program customized for the movements associated with Irish Dancing.
  
  I am requesting your assistance in completing a survey designed to examine the training habits among dancers. The study will help determine the relationship between skill level, extracurricular activities, cross-training and injuries within the Irish dance population. The research conducted will be used to help develop a training manual focused on preparing dancers for competition.
  
  Information will be obtained from past and present competitive Irish Dancers of all age and skill level groups. Ages will range from 10 to adult (minor participation in the study will be completed by parent or guardian).
  
  An anonymous survey has been constructed to provide information on gender, age, skill-level, dance training, cross-training activities, extracurricular activities and injuries. Two surveys will be utilized (a survey for adult dancers, and a survey for parents/guardians of minor dancers 18 and under).
  
  A website has been constructed to disperse the survey http://www.cwu.edu/~bruhniiic/IrishDanceSurvey/HomePage.html
  
  Reasonable and appropriate safeguards have been used in the creation of these web-based surveys to maximize the confidentiality and security of your responses. Participants cannot be identified through this survey¯ directly, demographically or statistically. No contact information or direct response is requested on the survey.
  
  I am hoping for your assistance in obtaining the information needed to conduct this research. With your assistance we can better identify and refine the training tools and techniques to help create stronger and healthier dancers.

  Here is a challenge from Rince na Tiarna (of Buffalo, and Erie) to all dance schools in the U.S.A - beyond would be great too. With so many dancers this time of year spending a great deal of time in hotels for your Oireachtas…grab all the unused toiletries provided for you in your hotel room. If each school could bundle them up and send them for the troops overseas or local homeless shelters it would make a great impact. We have adopted 4 RNT family members troops and have already sent blank holiday cards for the troops to be able to send back home. We are collecting Christmas cards written from our dancers, calling cards, hotel/trial size personal hygiene products, sunscreen, and chapstick to send over. The big prize of this challenge is the great feeling you will have for uniting as a whole Irish Dance group doing a great deed. The men and woman overseas appreciate any products sent. Thanks.

  Looking at possible move to Portland,husband in the military and was curious about the dance schools in the area.also are there a lot of feis in this region that wouldn't require a lot of travel time,would be coming from SRegion and usually travel no more than five hours to a feis.   I did Irish dance for 5 years when I was a teenager. I am now 21 years old and have not danced for 4 years. I am planning on starting up again (I've missed it!!). I won't be competing for a while (all those dances to learn again!!), but if/when I do, where would I start? I was at Prizewinner 16&Over when I quit.   This is in part a thankyou to the wonderful North Americans who sent words of support via the Australian Message Board on the death of Lily Claro (5 times Australian Champion). Friends of Anne and Jen Claro are putting on a benefit night for them to help with the considerable expenses that have accummulated. • Question for WestCoasters: why are so many of your feiseanna 2 days? -- D. Robinson aka feismom.com (curious ECR FeisMom), 09:39:39 01/16/07 Tue
  I've seen some with caps of half of what some NY feiseanna pull off in one day, and wonder why this is? Is it a West Coast thang to have a more relaxed (although some might say drawn out/more expensive) feis experience? Do your dancers compete only 1 at a time?
  Not trying to be snarky, just wondering if the reasoning makes sense and application works if it might catch on out here.
  
  Any feisfolx out there who have competed in Western and Eastern (or other regional) competitions notice any other differences?
  
  For example, it seems a trend in upper NY competitions to award Open PW trophies from sometimes as low as 5th place up, whereas many Toronto ON feiseanna tend to only award a first place with a trophy. I'm also detecting a push from some feiseanna to have all of one age group in non-championships dances to stick to one stage (hopefully rotating the judges)- is this happening out West as well? Or perhaps did it always happen like that?
