Subject: On a Negative, long and rambling note.....

The Broncos "bigs" score 9 points. Every one else jacks up 44 three pointers. A cognet argument for how much 1: the "runaway beer truck" contributes (Neisen was out with the flu), and 2:the need for a more offensive and defensive help in the interior, as the front line of the Torreros scored a bunch and out rebounded the Broncos. Bailey started off like a house afire but the missed his last 5-6 shots (probably leg and wrist weary). Perkins finished strong during a furious final 2 minutes, but other than those 2 no one is near double figures.
Although Neisen and Patrick were DNPs, you have to beat the conference doormat at home and on the road. LMU and Portland are now huge. If they lose to LMU, it's a 6th or 7th seed for sure.
While I'm crabbing, during the radio interview, Saendel complains about the failure to make shots by the players. If I understand correctly, he's responsible for the offense. There are shooters on the floor; most the wings can't do much else consistently. Maybe they missed 30 open 3's, but from the games I saw last year and this year (albeit this season's were only on TV)The Broncos don't get many open shots. This stems, I think, from an absense of a consistent post presence(Neisen's as close as they have) and a general lack of athleticism, save Perkins and Patrick, and a surprising inability to execute. Hard screens to free shooters, back picks, moving without the ball, should get some open looks. Also missing without a consistent post/power presence is the abilty to rebound, fast break and allow your preimeter to be aggressive defensively.
I do think with a healthy Patrick and Neisen, the Broncos likely win tonight (although USD is much like SCU was last year injury wise), but the margin shouldn't be so thin that one non-star starter and your 6th or 7th man make you that vulnerable. I don't think DD has become suddenly dumb; he's forgotten more about the game than we'll ever know.He generally gets as much from his players as anyone could. But I think that to be successful, he's going to need to get some players that have more talent-wise to give. I know this is the lament of most mid majors. His last few classes have been ok--Neissen and the mysteriously dissapearing Rohe (i'm still hoping he returns to preconference 2002 form); Denison (who I I think has a good chance to be as good or better than Brendan Graves) and Perkins. But ok isn't going to be enough to take the program to the point it appeared to be headed before BJ's unfortunate run-in with Adonal Foyle: a consistent winner and challenger for the NCAAs.They need a legitimate go-to guy.I'll stop now. I need to take my medication.

>I need to take my medication.

I however neglected to take mine .... been away sick and also wound up working Sat Night .... AAAAAGGGGGHH!!!!!!

I think JCard pretty much covered the ground ... did not heard/see the game so if ANYONE out there is lurking that did what happened to Ethan ... make just ONE 3 ... was he off? ... heavily guarded? .... ????

(we missed JR's 1-2 solid 3's a game) ... and say what you will Travis does make a difference ... a POSITIVE difference ...

so let's get well ... (EAT UP TRAVIS ... but be hungry enough to eat a Lion ... or two) ... and JR ... now's the time for the "Golden Boy" to earn the end of that scholarship (and reprieve from Baylor) ... a sweep in LA would go a LONGGGG way toward making this a very good season ...

heck ... they gave #5 Miss St. its second best game of the year ... and could/should have had BYU too ...

if Kyle stays back, Travis gets healthy (for his home town folks), JR makes the plane ... (and some shots) ... Howell gets banging and blocking ... and ONE of the Rhode/Rohe/Roadshow shows up ... and DORON just is DORON we have a chance ...

GO BRONCOS !!! .... it's time to put it together ....

Scoring 18 points in the second half v. Loyola is pathetic. I'm glad I missed the game , because I'm not sure I could have stomached another 2nd half fade out. This team will possibly not win another game given the rest of the schedule, save ST. Mary's, is on the road. Maybe '66 found something encouraging, but I'll be amazed if he does. I'm not jumping off the bandwagon; I've been too emotionally invested in this team for 30 odd years. But I think we need to start looking at the ride in 04-05. I'd play Denison more and give Rohe more time to rediscover his form. Then I'd recruit like there's no tomorrow ('cuz ther might not be for DD if next season's flames out)Get a JUCO point guard who can come in and average more assists than turnovers ( I don't think Angley can come in and jump from Nor Cal to D-1) and someone big who can run, jump and give the Broncos an interior presence with Denison. That and hope that Perkins can develop an outside game to go with his athleticism and that Henke is as good as he seems to be. Make Bailey a 6th man. And Hope for some luck.
