Nice article about Zurek. That guy was amazing. He basically started a fight every game.

Missed in the article was that he was also a talented player who scored a lot and had excellent post skills. Sometimes he lost his cool even too much, but over all he was a huge contributor to those teams ... a better player than Sedlock and Von Buchwaldt and as good as Dunne or Graves. If they needed an inside basket late in the game, the ball went to Zurek.

The big piece of news in that article is that Nieson will likely start. This means that the starting lineup in the Olympic Club game was for real with Nieson and Dougherty both expected to start Monday. I don't care what you guys say (well maybe I do) but this is a huge surprise. Rohe and Legge were by any objective standards considered to be stars on this team and both appear to be bench players game 1. I'm not complaining or critizing, just surprised that's all.

Actually, I'm surprised too.I think the starting lineup will be a work in progress for a while. I thought that Niesen would eventually start for the Broncos; it's just a year sooner than I expected. Dave's Niesen- Bronco retrospective article was great-any thuggery that Niesen et al can provide will be a welcome addition. As for Rohe, he had good success coming off the banch last year; maybe the thought is to make him a 'super 6th man'- a starter in minutes played but not in name. I can't figure out the move with Legge, the program has been touting him as having all-conference potential for two years ( I noticed the same was said 'bout Niesen @ the website. In any event, this is a more solveable problem than starting or playing 3 previously "walk-on players" on the court at the same time as SCU did last year.If they stay healthy, (I know I keep harping on that) the Broncos actually have some depth. Let's hope for some Maui magic.
