Is sin different from evil? Here is an example: Let's say the Washington-area sniper turns out to be criminally insane. That would mean, I think, that the sniper's attorney's had proven to a court that the sniper did not know right from wrong. If that is so, that the sniper did not know right from wrong, are his actions sinful? Must we be capable of discernment of right from wrong to sin?

Even if we say the answer to the last question is yes, is there anyone who would say the sniper's actions aren't evil? How can evil not be sinful?
