Subject: 87 Bronco II engine miss

I have a 87 2.9 bronco II that has a bad miss. Engine runs like a champ but It misses when I start driving. It doesn't seem to be at any particular RPM but when I give it gas it misses. Goes some thing like .....Miss .....Miss....MissMiss..Miss...Miss. I got new plugs, wires, and had plugs gapped but still have miss. I thought about replacing the Distributor but
I don't want to spend money to find out that is not the problem. Any suggestions on what to try first? Any known probs with this engine? Does same thing cold or hot.
Thanks
Jon
