Subject: Pinging

I purchased a 89 bronco with a 5.0 that had a dead cylinder and I'm not a ford man but I got a good deal on it. #8 piston had a hole in it so I rebuilt the engine with new pistons and every thing else and when I completed it I had a ping under light load. I retarded the timing 5 degrease from factory spec and still pinged.I checked the plug wires I replaced the injectors still pinged. super unleaded still pinged. Knowing that #8 was burnt I focused on that. When it pinged it sounded like it was only one cylinder. I put wire loom insulation on #8 plug wire fron end to end to give it more insulation and seperated it from #7 wire and that was it. I'm curently running it at 15 degrease and that is 5 degrease advanced no ping and it runs good. What's happening is #7 and #8 fire side by side so #8 is on it's compression stroke almost to the top ready to fire and #7 bleads over and #8 fires to soon and you have detonation. I'm still not a ford man but they are good vehicles.
