I have a '96 Bronco with the same thump as you(or, more correctly, I did have it. I fixed it in about an hour). The problem is in the rear driveshaft slip yoke assembly. Cut off the metal clamp that holds the slip yoke rubber boot to the front half of the drive shaft. Make witness marks with chalk on the rear Ujoint and where it bolts to the differential and on both halfs of the driveshaft at the slip joint. This is so it can be put back together the way it came apart without affecting the balance. Unbolt the rear Ujoint from the differential. Mine was bolted to a flange so there was no problem with the Ujoint bearing caps. If you have the U_bolts, unbolt them and wrap tape around the Ujoint bearing caps so they don't fall off. After unbolting the Ujoint, pry the Ujoint yoke away from the differential and lower the rear of the driveshaft. Slide the rear half of the driveshaft out of the slip joint. Generously grease the inside and outside splines. Put the whole thing back together. Use a long plastic cable tie (get them at Radio Shack) to clamp the boot back on. Don't use one of those steel screw type clamps...they could throw your driveshaft out of balance. Viola! No more thump!
