The mood at SRO was telling. So many weary faces and very few genuine smiles. Dancers looked exhausted and hearts were not into it. The forced smiles and faked joy at results was disheartening. The schools putting on a facade with light-up hats and banners couldn't fool anyone. The alcohol was flowing just to keep the mood above water.

The desperate speech at Saturday results with that woman going on about "Irish dance being the best community to be part of" elicited actual laughter and murmurings from the audience. The same families I saw scowling and screaming at each other had their Facebook pictures with their pasted on smiles and lies about their "wonderful weekend of dancing."

It's always a dog and pony show but it's never been this bad.
