True enough. My mom is both very religious and an all but card-carrying Democrat. Most of this country is either A) religious or B) indifferent on the issue one way or the other. The 5-10% on either end are the ones making noise, and the GOP has been smart to play that in their favor. This is why I, and even you Republican types, know that the Dems NEED a Southern religious candidate in '08 to have even a chance to win back some red states. Jimmy Carter did it. Bill Clinton, all moral commentary aside, did it twice. With a run this year and some experience under his belt, John Edwards has a better shot than most. This will be particularly true if the GOP opts for McCain (from Arizona, populated with transplanted Northerners) or Giuliani (from the Big Blue City itself). Both parties need to stretch their power in the states they lost. I know, duh, right? But the Dems didn't this year, opting for a choice between Northern liberals (Kerry and Dean), retreads (Gephardt, who ran in 19-eighty-frickin-eight, or Lieberman), and Edwards, the only one with even the slightest blue in the collar. But right now, let's see what happens with the court. There was a picture of them in Time or US News, and my God, they look OLD.
