Alright, here's how it goes: I won, but neither of us know HOW I won. He thinks it's because he hit an e item, I think it's because I attacked him. We've been debating this (perhaps 'debating' is too civilized a word...) and the issue has been weighing on my mind, so I want to ask for you guys' oppinion.
I wish I'd have recorded this, since it was SUCH A COOL BATTLE. It was me, Marth, versus my friend, as Gannon.
So, he thinks that Marth and Roy are useless because their down+b and right+b moves suck. Well, that's just because he doesn't know how to use them. So, I decide to use Marth's Counter and right+b (the name escapes me) almost exclusively. I called right+b "Marth's Pretty Random Color Generator", or Generator for short. Anyway, I've always had trouble getting the timing right on Generator, so I'm using Counter a lot. And guess what, it's been a week since I'm played smash, so I'm rusty and sucking with Counter. Thusly he is kicking my arse, when I'd usually have him down and out by now. By the way, we were playing with items on.
So I Counter his Warlock Punch and we both go "OHHHHH!!!!!" because the sight of those two amazing forces clashing like that was amazing. He loves to use Warlock Punch and Ganon's up+a a lot when someone's shield is broke or they are otherwise unable to dodge it. Speaking of breaking shields, here's how I got into this mess:
I think I've got the battle won. I have two full lives, he has two lives left and he's at 150-200% damage at the moment. So I blow him off the platform with an attack and then I roll to the other side of the stage, tot he edge. I am so positive I'm going to win that I forget to take my finger off the shield button. Then, by some miracle he gets back on the stage! What the HECK! I am so shocked that I STILL don't take my dang finger off the shield button, and my shield breaks and I fall off the edge (Idiot me...).
So then, then I come back, I kill him in one hit, and we both have one life left. An epic battle ensues and he is winning. I've dropped my stupid policy of Counter and Generator only now and am attacking him full out. He keeps on knocking me off the platform and giving me heck when it comes to getting back on. So, I knock him to the other side, and we're like this:
M__________...G..
'M' is Marth, 'G' is Ganon, and '.' are items. I don't remember what they were.
He does his up+a attack, and I rush to him, seeing him open like that (he thinks he's so cool with his stupid up+a...). So I decide, I'll teach him a lesson, attacks with a power-up time can be countered easily if I have good timing with counter. So I risk it all and rush at him, and do Counter at what I think is the appropriate time. Counter is successful and-
BOOOOOM!!!!!!
An explosion! We both go flying! CRAZY! We're like two missiles, going off the screen in opposite directions. GAME! I win. But...what the heck happened just now...?!
Since I went flying as well as him, I was hit by something. But what? I countered his move. Was it an e item? Did my Counter or his attack possibly hit a or something? Or did his e-looking up+a attack hit me even though I countered it? You can counter Link's but still be hit by them. He says his foot hit a . I say my Counter hit him even though his foot hit me. He wants a rematch and I say you can't ask for a rematch twice in a row. He throws a-
Well, that's when it got uncivilized...but anyway...
What do you think happened, based on the info?
