i'm glad your concerned about your white dobe. i don't think you should be. i have had dobe's for the past thirty years and my most recent was a "white". he passed at ten years of age due to contracting "liptospiria". a horrible deadly desease that attacts the liver and kidneys very fast. it is contracted through a wild animal uring such as racoon or oppossum. not inherited!! of all my dobes through the years (6) our white (ghost) was without a doubt the heathiest, most intellegent, and most admired. maybe most loved but how do you compare?! at a young age he was admittedly a more aggressive dog. i have always trained in obedience so we made it through it. i determined that he was very intellegent but not as "smart" as a couple of the others. intellegent to the point of not wanting to play the game of "sit/down/sit/place/down/heel/sit/place/down/etc. etc. he would show you that he knew exactly what you wanted and, in fact, showed quite well in obedience, but after a few minutes he became vocal and let you know that he didn't want this silliness and either teach him something new or leave him alone. he was intelligent enough to not be smart enough to play along just for your pleasure. he was a typical "velcro" dobe and never left my wife's side while in the house. he even had to be in the bathroom when she got her bath. of course he got his face washed nightly while there. his coat was thick and beautiful with no skin problems at all. no typical dobe acne. he cleaned himself like a cat and stayed spotless. had maybe one bath in the last eight years of his life and he slept in the bed with us! spotless! he was a big (110 lb) lovable and healthy friend with zero problems right up until he got sick. no sight problems or any other problems of any kind. the white dobe is just a fifth color. the only "true" color was black. then came red, blue, and fawn. now white! dobe fanciers should rejoice in the new color of this wonderful breed, not try to eliminate it or the nurturing of it through lies. good luck!! hope yours is half as good as our "ghost" was! barry croucher
