I knew when I saw it in a shop in Newport this summer that it would be just the thing to get me through a long winter... It wasn't hot cocoa mix... or some fancy tea bags... It was a quart container filled with the secret Del's lemonade mix ;-)... I bought two quarts of it back in August...enough to make a few gallons of the beverage I grew up with when grandma and grandpa would treat the 10 of us to two weeks all together in a little cabin in Narragansett each summer.
I bought two quarts...one quart to share with friends, the ones that never had the chance to taste Del's and couldn't understand why I would make a big deal about a lemon flavored slushy...the other quart....allll mine ;-)
So now instead of risking second degree burns on the bottom of my feet as I trek through the sandy beach only to stop at the sign of the lemon and get my Dels fix for the day ... I'm sliding along ice on my walkway to get into the warmth of my home to sit back and enjoy a cold one ;-) I should throw a few grains of sand into the mix to get the authentic taste of del's on the beach.... Speaking of eating stuff with grains of sand thrown in... Anyone out there have a good recipe for Clamcakes? ;-)))
