Oh, sorry, I kinda missed this thread(actually, it didn't load properly on my PC so my reply and your second one weren't shown until just now). Basically, you should always have around 1/3 of your fairies out hunting/growing crops and that sort of thing(check their individual stats to decide which ones you want to assign). Any others should be clearing out the land and building houses whenever possible. After that, just choose what sort of shop/establishment you wish to set up, put a fairy of your choice into a house and wait a while. Shops will take time to get new items depending on the Intelligence and such of your fairy, and so on. That sorta thing, you'll get used to it eventually, hopefully.
